The Korg MS20, Polysix, and Monopoly can do this very well.
At least the filter self oscillation thing.

Moog Modular V. timewARP.

Well, I think I got this to work using Monark. The issue is the sub bass doesn't sound like expected, like it's not subby enough you know? It also gets much quieter in the lower register... this problem can be fixed, but..

I suspect it would be easier to make a list of soft synths that don't self oscillate

The Minimoog filter is famous for not resonating in the bass range. I think it's this that lets you make bass sounds that sweep the filter down without a massive "whump" in the tail where the resonance is boosting the already loud and dominant lower harmonics.

Ingonator wrote:Best results are with synth that have zero-delay-feedback filters like e.g. Diva, NI Monark, TAL U-NO-LX, TAL BassLine-101, Xils Lab Oxium, Xils Lab Synthix, XIls LAb PolyKKB II, Tone2 Saurus and Charlatan.
Besides that several other softsynths could self-oscillate too like e.g. Synthmaster 2.6, Tone2 ElectraX, Arturia Prophet V, Arturia Jupiter 8V, Arturia Minimoog, ImpOSCar 2, Poly-Ana, Korg MS-20 and Korg Mono/Poly.

In Waldorf PPG Wave 3.V self-oscillation seems to work but it does not seem to be possible to turn off all oscillators to hear the pure self-oscillation sound. Same in Korg Polysix.

No self-oscilation seems to be possible in e.g. Xils Lab XILS 3, Diversion, Z3TA+ 2 and Synapse Audio Dune. In Largo it is sound very harsh and strange which i would not call "real" self-oscillation.

Some of the existing Oberheim emulations (e.g. Arturia Oberheim SEM V, OBXD) don't seem to self-oscillate. Anyway i found that this seems to be the case in the real SEM too.
Someone mentioned this is usual behavior for state variable filters and other mention that it could work but keyboard tracking does not seem to work properly.

Hi Ingo,

The Xils 3 filters have self oscillation in 3 and 4 poles modes.

And thats correct no self oscillation in real SEM modules.

It's the same in Diva, and hopefully in all other decent clones of the Minimoog's circuits.

The attenuation of low frequency resonance plays a role in what makes the transistor ladder filter sound great with resonance up, and what lets filters "fall apart" if they don't do this.

Which of course was a cascade of one pole filters, not a state variable like the earlier Oberheims had.

The Matrix 12 also won't self oscillate below a certain frequency. It has a highpass filter in the feedback path with 3dB attenuation at 60Hz. So resonance will be attenuated audibly below about 100Hz.

Yep. The Matrix-12 in fact just uses a simple CEM3372 4-pole lowpass filter chip and achieves all the different filter modes via resistor array trickery

I like modesty :D

Anyway, I never quite understood that feature, it sounds annoying and unmusical to my ears. With some resonance knobs with that odd circular operation mode I have accidentally turned resonance all the way to max instead of min occasionally. Perfect for getting Tinnitus  I wish there were a lock on Resonance at, say, 50%. Only after unlocking could it be turned higher than that.

Maybe you are using the wrong synths :hihi:
