if all you have is one studio monitor right now, then that's all you have. some people just can't see beyond the big picture, i just feel sorry for them. utilize it as best as possible and place it in the middle and connect it to a 1 in 2 out y cable. a better question is, mixing with one baseball, big deal? don't worry about what you don't have, use what you do. i would advise you do get new monitors asap even if there just cheapo desktop speakers and not real studio monitors. but to answer your question in its pure form, yes, it is a huge deal.
