Ace of Base was the biggest b**ls**t ever. i hated every single note. the voices were terrible as the whole arrangements and compositions. i can't remember listen to more untalented people then this strange bunch of dabblers back in the 90's. of course this all is VERY subjective and if somebody loved it i would say it's okay!

I can't say I'm a big fan, I don't own any of their recordings but I think they are very very good at their style, when I happen to catch one of their songs on the radio I like 'em, the singer has a great personality and a very powerful vocal tone, I love her vibrato.

"Listen to your heart" sounds like they copy-pasted Heart's "what about love" though

You can't escape your first radio listens. Ace of Base just played a lot around the time i got into elementary school. I didn't love it, but liked it.

I loved things like "i'm the scatman".

In retrospect i probably should be glad the radio wasn't my only first influence, the albums of my parents balanced it out a little.

Dude, it's totally part of the issue, haha. I was 7 or 8. you typically aren't that jaded or much of a critical listener at that age. If you listen to something often enough, it'll stick provided a minimum catchiness. You have not much to compare it to at that point to consider it derivative or badly put together.
Truth be told, if i had listened to "all that she wants" at age 20 for the first time, i probably would've just dismissed it.
Ace of base is by no means interesting music, but compared to some of the later 90's radio stuff for example, i find it pretty listenable personally. And nostalgia plays into that ofc.

Too right - now Heart were a great band before they went all big hair and MOR (although they also made a couple of the only MOR tracks I can stand to listen too - especially Alone)

Ann Wilson has a really lovely voice.
