The thing I love about Permut8 is that you can FSU, but also you can subtle with it and get all kinds of little lush digital grunge:

Yeah, using it on a send to have a bit of signal get lightly chewed by it is glorious. And the decimation-type sounds it can make are much more tweakable than most straight bitcrushers can achieve. Throw in a bit of chorus modulation as well and it can get lush.

permut8 at first glance/sound is an amazing plugin. the problem lies in that its just too weird sounding. i find that it ruins a good sound more then improves it. that's why i haven't bought it.

magnus tries so hard to be unique that often his plugins are just unusable. while he has made many plugins, the genius title can only be applied to two of his plugins. that being malstrom and microtonic. the rest are just well, how else do i say it, esoteric

All permut8 is doing is the same thing that these "OMG BUFFER FX" plugins do, only instead of giving you a few preset effects with a couple of parameters each, you get to design how the buffer is read from scratch. That does make it slightly more esoteric, and probably more for people who identify as "engineers" and not pure "musicians/songwriters".

I agree it can take longer to get usable results, and it's quite easy to make very annoying sounds with it, but as you learn it (insert "like an instrument" cliche here :hihi: ) it does get easier to control. Essentially, it's very logical - perhaps too logical for some humans :>

Bought this yesterday, and I'm blown away by its capabilities. :o
I can't lie to you about your chances, but... you have my sympathies.

I'm especially curious to see with what kind of alternate firmwares people will come up over time!

Actually my only real complaint is that activating the alternate engines is too weird/convoluted. I'd have hoped for a simple menu system.
I actually love the method of loading alternate firmware. It makes me all nostalgic for my childhood, tinkering on my Apple //e... the greatest computer ever made!

Yes I've always been a geek, even when it wasn't fashionable.

Had another listen today and I've decided that I want it! Does anybody know if it ever goes on sale? The current price is more than fair, but after you've added VAT into the equation the thing is a touch over my somewhat hamstrung price range right now. Especially for something I merely 'want' rather than something to accomplish a specific task (e.g., I bought Bitspeek for use in a specific track I had in mind)

^ No. They do it u-he style. Intro price but no sales.
Worth every penny though, if you use it regularly.

I'm not surprised. The current price really is very fair indeed. It's a shame I need a decent verb more urgently. Saving the pennies for VVV now, but this is definitely on my shopping list for the future. Ack, "saving the pennies" for a $50 plug. How my life has changed. :-?

If I'm not mistaken, you'll get a discount if you already own one of their products.

I was trying to mess with it a couple days ago and discovered that Maschine doesn't pass keystrokes to VST plugins that it hosts. :bang:

I hear you on that!

@OP: Thanks for reminding me that I gotta pick up this plug.

Or if you buy more than 1 at the same time. I picked up Microtonic when I purchased Permut8 and got $20 off. If you reverse that (add Permut8 to a Microtonic order), it is only a savings of $13.20

I wish people would not make posts about Permut8--it is MY plugin and I don't need a bunch of people discovering how great it is. :hihi:

Haha.
Yeah, Permut8 is great.
I like playing the Microtonic with Permut8.

Wrap it in minihost modular, that overides any hosts keystrokes (runs its own process)
Works fine with Permut8 in Maschine ;)
Duh
