Thank you for your response, and I apologize for applying years-old grudges to my posts up there. I am looking forward to trying out the new synth and perhaps even plopping down the $399 for the real deal when it comes out.

Again, I apologize.

Totally accepted and thanks for being open minded. When it is out you should contact us to see what we can do to make sure you don't get a bad taste again. We like to avoid that as much as possible. Our philosophy is simple. We work hard to make exciting useful products and we want to connect them with the people that are likely to appreciate them. We're not going for just blind success and we don't like to have products disappoint anyone because it's not for them. In fact, that is one of the reasons we spend time on the forum. We're for informed buying decisions and honest responses (even if it means revealing some flaws) so that people have confidence to know what they are getting if we have anything to do with it.

That's how things are now.

Thanks, GMstudio.

I'm impressed by your communication skills. Nicely done :) (I mean it).

btw - how different are the sounds that come with Sonik 2 from the ones that came out with Sampletank 2 itself? What are the highpoints of both collections would you say - I couldn't afford both.

Thanks aMUSEd.

SampleTank 2's high points are the overall variety of sounds included. It has a little of almost everything. But, not a lot of one thing except in certain areas. There are quite a lot of pianos, vocals, brass and various orchestral instruments in there. The other categories tend to be more evenly matched and it is great as source for songwriting and the "meat & potatoes". Another thing that is good about SampleTank 2 itself is that it is the flagship for all of the technology built off of that engine. All roads lead to Rome (err Modena ;) ). What I mean by that is that you can load everything into ST2 such as imported sounds from other formats or native ST libraries from SR and AMG or even ST engine based modules like Sonik Synth 2 can all be read under one plug-in if you wanted to- SampleTank 2. That's good to know even if you chose to get Sonik Synth 2 and later on wanted to get SampleTank 2 to further it's capabilities (or visa versa).

Sonik Synth 2 has the meat & potatoes offering that Sonic Synth 1 had and we added some cool acoustic guitars that have velocity slide ups and some awesome orchestral and vocal textures as well as bringing over the best of Sonic Synth 1's meat & potatoes instruments now used for new patches and combis as well. But, a large part of the plug-in is dedicated to both vintage synths and atmospheric textures. It's not meant to copy a particular hardware synth's achitecture (there are plenty of cool plug-ins for that) but it is meant to cover a lot of the characteristic sounds of classic synth brands as well as doing the roles of workstation synths in software. This is the closest thing in software to something like a JV2080 filled with vintage expansion boards on steroids!

You'll notice that all three IK & SR plug-ins announced ST2, Sonik Synth 2 and Studiophonik are of the "workstation" type. But, each of them has different sound content from the other (and can be used under ST2 to expand it to a 15 gigabyte monster workstation as well). This is something that very few companies can offer because it means you'd have to have a massive archive of samples owned and prepared by a single source. We've worked for years to be in the position to even be able to offer something that big. But the results are worth it.

That's what I like to see, lobbing easy pitches at the dev. Everyone's happy and having fun.

Being that Sonik Synth is out of my price range for the foreseeable future, I for one am good and chuffed regarding the free version. Free is free indeed! And it might distract me from any gear lust for a while.

Ok. Maybe you'll want to get the full version anyway though. We'll work hard so that you feel like selling off misc. other stuff to get it. ;)

Anyway, enjoy the free version. It'll be fun and useful itself.

How come I feel like that's directed towards me? ;) We'll see, that's for sure, the devoted JV2080 fan. :hihi:

It definitely wasn't directed toward you.

Anyway, the irony is that I sampled a bunch of sounds for the JV vintage expansion boards back in the day so when I say "virtually loaded with vintage expansion boards on steroids" it has even some extra meaning. However, I should clarify that the goal of this is not to make a virtual JV2080 specifically. That's already been done and if you want one of those you can get them cheap on eBay. This, however, does a lot of the synth sound "roles" of so many different synthesizers including the JV series in general but also many different types of keyboards over the years.

Although, check back in a day or so to hear all of the various mp3 riff demos from Sonik Synth 2 that I did. Just a little taste. Here's one I didn't post but see if you can guess what it's from. www.sonicreality.com/squidscorner/OutoftheCage.mp3 and here is a fat moog modular: www.sonicreality.com/squidscorner/LuckyMoog.mp3 But, on the link at the top maybe by the end of the day tomorrow there will be some more samples of EMS, Voyetra, Jupiters, Arps and other synths... plus some nice ethereal textures from SS2 like this: www.sonicreality.com/squidscorner/MysticOcean.mp3

What do you think?

Nice! :D

Thanks. These are just some quick ones I did to give a little taste of the various flavors of synths. The moog thing, the arp thing... but when we're done I'll spend some more time showing how cool the Oberheim SEM sounds in a different way from say an EMS VCS3 or an Arp 2500 etc.

There's more going on that page tomorrow some time. I hope you all like it!

Mystic Oceans doesn't sound too shabby. Keep in mind it's complex sounds, or very biting sounds like Vanguard that grab my attention too. ;)

There are a ton of samples on the Keyboard Mag page. Wow!!! SS2 is hotness! I like that you are bringing in some familiar sounds used in actual songs back in the days. The Steely Dan harmonica...classic! These riffs and that info page put SS2 over the top for me. I was looking hard at Ultra Focus, but your dedication to SS2 has sold me already.

How many presets are we looking at for SS2?

Pete
