I keep my Waves licenses on a cheap usb pendrive (I bought one of the cheapest I could find, I didn't care about size since the licenses require very little space) since I bought them and I never had a problem.
The only drawback is that it takes away an usb port, but I already have an eLicenser and an iLok on an usb hub, so it's just one more dongle. And I can move it to another pc without hustle if I need/want to.

After reading this story about the mac address, I'm happy I went to the pendrive route from the start. :?

As a conclusion to my story, I would like to add that Waves support has been very helpful, and sorted me out with the help I needed :tu:

I wish they kept ilok; I never had licensing issues with it (for years), and now it's a regular thing. I regret upgrading them to v9. Dongle free, they said, a more flexible system, they promised.

I'll never buy WUP. I'd rather give my credit card details to Nigerian scammers.
What are you talking about? It is not the case on my computer. It would be bad because the browser can lead to crackling in the sound, dunno why that is, but I have noticed that it happens. But again, I don't have to have any browser open for Waves stuff to run properly.

I did the same, which is why I said it would be cool if all developers adopted that system. All licenses together would use only one USB slot, and software would become completely independent of computers.

Well that's helpful to know :dog:

It is absolutely normal behaviour, because for some reason, waves licenses are tied to available RAM. At 32-bit this poses a huge problem. Running other apps will stop the licenses ability to "load" (despite having another 12 GB free RAM). It's just about the worst kind of implementation I've ever seen for licensing.

Just sharing my experience.

USB FLASH Drive. I also copy the Licenses from the USB to a safe location, as once upon a time, my Licenses just disappeared by magic. In theory, I can just copy them back again to the FLASH Drive if Paul Daniels tries to entertain me again.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

If you search Google (I just want to cause any trouble on this board), there is a way you can have the USB key AND have the software licensed to another computer. I found that the be the best way. It would have been more reasonable for Waves to explicitly allow two actives installations since it is 2014 and many users have a desktop and laptop but I digress. I used the method to have my licenses on my laptop and my USB goes into the desktop since it's less likely to get lost if it stays at home....

It's true about the MAC addresses, although I was certain PCs had them as well, all network devices. However I am not positive.

It stands for Media Access Control and are required for all network/Internet connections. It's a unique identifier so an individual device can be addressed within an entire system. It's usually built in as part of the network interface card.

Getting to the point, whe I was setting up a new modem recently, I noticed they had the ability to reassign the MAC address. The modem can also use a copy of a specific devices MAC for use as its own.

The only time you would need to reassign an address is if by some freak coincidence you ended yo with 2 devices with the same MAC.

It's this type of thing that could cause any online service to throw a spaz (Australian colloquial term for a fit or a seizure  ), including the WLC. So make sure this kind of thing isn't going on with your router.

Anti-viruses are also known for messing things about by blocking incoming and outgoing communication streams, that could also cause issues in any online licensing service.

Waves Central takes MAC addresses from modems, routers, docking stations, etc. E.g. you cannot not use more than one router, because your license will only work with the MAC of this router.

I like their plugins, but Waves Central is probably the worst in the industry. The products are licensed to my notebook, but will not work without the peripherals. Very frustrating. I have just spent another four hours with this.

Why don't you start a new thread with your concern?
All these necro threads resurrected are a bit boring to be honest....
