thats a shame. :/
it'd be nice to have a final blowout sale rather than it just quietly disappearing, im sure plenty people would pick it up just for a play and some new inspiration

He still happily uses Orion Pro V2.1 on a Win98 laptop.

Otoh, he's not dead and talks about making a new sequencer so... it's all good. Maybe the next one will be even better and more importantly, more profitable for him. It was probably even more frustrating for him to see sales dwindling while at the same time seeing it out there cracked or whatever (which his quote kinda suggested).
There is far too little interest in Orion (from legit users anyway).
I wish him the best.

His quote more than kinda suggested it. :P

I doubt many ppl would buy a product with no support.

Looks like a rational business decision to me. I thoroughly enjoyed my run with Orion, but since changing to long, flowing ambient works it just stopped being a good fit for what I was doing.

Still, sad to see it fade away. :(

Yes, very sad indeed :( There were some really cool things being planned for the next Orion version on the beta site that I would dearly love to have seen implemented.

About Dune 2 having more business, to me it makes sense at least because he's spent the past couple years on it entirely, so of course the money will follow where your efforts were placed.

I'm still holding out hope though!!! At least until an official declaration is made, until then the only thing I can do is beg and plead to keep Orion alive..

This is a shame to hear, but the writing has been pretty clearly on the wall for many years! My first two DAW's where the original Acid Pro and Orion, so it is a pity they both gradually withered on the vine, as they were both fantastic programs to use.

It is a pity that he didn't seize the opportunity to reinvent Orion for the Windows tablet/convertible market as it is the one DAW that I have tried that works well on a touch screen. With more enhancements to make it more touch friendly , he could have grabbed that market .Will be interested to see what Richard comes up with in the future with his new "sequencer".

I am pretty happy these days with Reaper and a bit of Maschine and Mulab....possibly also adding Bitwig when v2 rolls around. There are always plenty of options to say the least :)

That's an awesome idea about touchscreen orion. I've used it also like that and it's especially easy to create tracks with the minimal menus and less convoluted workflow.

You should check out Caustic, I know it's available on ipad. My first impression was of Orion, even though
I have only dabbled with it.
Oh, and good luck Rich. I loved Orion

Its a shame to see Orion go, but I wish Rich the best.

I still use Orion so I really hate to see it go as I've been a user for awhile, but for the past couple of years I've really adopted Reaper as my DAW workhorse (mainly because of CPU usage of VSTis and it being the best for audio for how I create). However, if Orion would've been updated I would've went along and bought it no questions asked. Nothing can beat the workflow of the mixer or the drumrack.

I hope in the future more developers & hopefully Rich as well learn that you have to pay attention to the wants of your user base. Many times I have seen reasonable requests ignored or shut down for Orion on the Synapse forum by many of the more seasoned users and moderators (even my own). I understand that every company & business owner has a vision of what they want their product to be, but disregarding what your paying customer base requests without any response is like shooting yourself in the foot. To stay in business you inevitably have to grow. Maybe the new sequencer will be more of a rewrite.

I look at this as a good news if I consider the quality of Antidote and Dune 2.
Just let him focus on making fantastic plugins. We will benefit much more than just Orion as it is, or as it was going to be, stretched more or less in the same direction...

Caustic is cool, works on pc too. Slowly growing and the best android app right now. Piece of cake if you are into orion.

Is track freeze in the latest public update?

I was quite surprised to see so many people saying they had moved to Reaper after Orion, I would have thought FL Studio was more similar. (I tried Orion many years ago, and liked it, but eventually ended up using FL Studio because it does so much more. (I hope that's not sacrilege in this thread!))
And I also love Dune 2, so I can understand why he took this step.

Well for the 95% more dune 2 users and antidote than Orion, maybe. But to someone who uses Orion Daw daily I would much rather have Orion that any of those plugs. We all know Richard is mostly a one man team with a few dedicated people helping out with the code. There isn't even resources to continue with Orion at the same time as the plugins and their userbase. I'd really like to see Richard fully invest in the audio business and decide to enter the Daw world with a team of developers working for him. He can still own the company and receive the largest cut of shares, but just have a manager or director be in charge of coding Orion or what not. As long as doing so would make economical sense, moreso than dropping Orion entirely, is there any other reasons why Richard might object to such a move?
