I think blend.io want's to be a new improved SoundCloud, but it seems very rough around the edges (designers and developers doesn't seem to care about details much, or they just lack skillz). There's also splice.com - design is much better, details are quite polished, but it doesn't know how to do social networking part very well.

blend.io and splice.com are more about music collaboration than showcasing music for consumers and others.
...I'm neither a big fan of such collaborative sites, sounds good but in practice little comes out from such collaborative efforts.

I've written it off as a lost cause after noticing that they implemented Content ID matching and I immediately got struck by completely false positives.

I keep all my music there. I listen to TON of music there. (Desktop only. No mobile.)
It is really the source right now for some of the 'underground' kiddie edm type stuff...
I pay for it, only due to wanting the space. I dont use much of the other 'pro' features.
I kind of hate it, now. All the little stupid shit has added up, and after how ever many years its been, Im kind of sick of 'dealing' with it.
It is better than nothing would be, and there are few viable alternatives afaik...

I use it. But what I cannot comprehend is how they could have messed up the conversations aspect so much as they did. It's borderline unusuable unless you just want to say something like "GREAT DROP!" or "WOOO!". You have to click through to a special page to even read the full comments and reply to them, and it's just generally horrible to follow and use.
WHY?!
WHY?!

SoundCloud has slowly deteriorated over the last 30 months. It's very difficult to find new tracks made by people you're following because of "The Stream". More configuration options would be a good thing. It seems to be less "musician" oriented these days.
I have a hearthis.at account, but haven't really used it much. They don't have embedding on other platforms yet. One of my tracks hit #4 in their electronica charts a couple of weeks ago. I'm going to try to use it more regularly.

True that, I opted out of paid subscription in Soundcould after the improvements. It really started to look like Myspace at times of decay. I hardly ever even log into SC anymore. They quite pinned it for me when they made old embed code stop working, so I had to go through all song I linked and change the code. No more SC, ever.Shabdahbriah wrote:Agree. I'm not terribly happy with it--and their support basically sucks anymore.jeffb01 wrote:just curious what alternatives there are (for people who don't like it)...
I don't know if anyone's mentioned hearthis.at. Similar to SC, and still growing. Forget their phone app, though--it's all but useless. And the support is pretty much just as bad as SC's.
On the upside, I'm a free member, but I get to sell tunes if I want. SC doesn't offer that unless you pay for their "premium" plan.

And that's not bad, but considering each of us may upload 10-20 songs, how many active users do they actually have? To put it another way: if two of my songs can make the "Top 10" in two different weeks, there can't be that many active users! (Though I just read on their Facebook page that they revised their ranking system last week. Now "everyone has a chance to be #1". My stuff ranked before that, when it was just based upon how many times a tune was played in a week. If there aren't that many tunes and you're playing the same ones over and over...well, you can do the math.seismic1 wrote:hearthis just hit 200,000 uploads yesterday, according to their Twitter account.
I'd like to see them grow, though I never see anything about them in any press. When I do, it's usually in something that was really about SoundCloud in the first place.
All that said, if you do want to sign up for hearthis.at, they have a "reseller" option. Even if you don't sign up for a paid membership, current users can get "Peaks" toward "highlighted tracks" on the site's home page if you follow their links. (I just found out about this today, while seeing what else hearthis.at has been up to.)
Here's my link, if you're interested: https://hearthis.at/?reseller=18511
Again, you do not have to sign up for a paid plan if you follow that link. But you might find better luck there than SoundCloud, and you might be able to start selling your tunes directly, if you're interested in that.

I hope they do, too.highkoo wrote:I really hope they get some momentum.
I signed up the other day for a free account. I have not uploaded anything just yet though...
They offer a relatively quick and easy way of getting your SC tunes over to them, but if you're concerned about sound quality, you'll want to upload the files directly to them. Free accounts are limited to 320 kbps .MP3 files, while paid accounts can upload .WAV files.

Yes, actually the .mp3 limitation is really the only thing that stopped me.
I have my whole discog on this box, in flac. I had no instant batch conversion at my fingertips, so I just skipped it til later.
Great deal though- Free+Unlimited, with 320s sounds pretty good compared to SoundCloud, from some perspectives. And the way their tier structure is set up is interesting. I could see it catching on..
I might have just talked myself into buying in.
Maybe if I get in early I can hit Top Ten!!

I believe VLC and Audacity offer batch conversion from one format to another. Then again, you can probably find a dedicated batch converter for free (watch out for any adware or toolbars that piggy-back on the installation!).highkoo wrote:Yes, actually the .mp3 limitation is really the only thing that stopped me.

There ARE some limitations on the free account though...highkoo wrote:Free+Unlimited, with 320s sounds pretty good compared to SoundCloud, from some perspectives.
https://hearthis.at/premium/Upload is allowed until
10.000 plays

Not complaining, would be too good if there wasn't, just mentioning...
