I think that, basically, what's new is what is new in Ardour - http://ardour.org/. Ardour is what powers Harrison Mixbus behind the scene. Baically, Harrison add a new mixer, and a few DSP processors (included in the mixer)

Yup, Im aware of where its core code comes from.

So theyve added nothing new themselves then I guess.

For what I read, they seem to have (big) projects for it, but for the moment, I suspect they didn't. But this is just based on what I read. I didn't even receive the e-mail yet :-?

Apparently it's no longer dependent upon Jack, for one thing. Anyone buy it yet?

Thanks for the answer! Personally, I'm waiting for the email to get the upgrade from version 2.5. I might just switch from my main daw to this one if it keeps it's promises and is stable enough.

I think most of us are waiting for the email...

They've added a lot actually. While Mixbus is based on Ardour, it doesn't mean they just take it and strap on their DSP. Harrison actively participate in the development of Ardour itself, so they most certainly have added new things to it. They really should put a full list together of what's changed though.

I haven't upgraded yet (waiting on the email with upgrade details) but I have used Mixbus 2.x and also use Ardour, so I know somewhat what to expect. Ardour 4.x has become very stable and has a huge amount of features added since Mixbus 2.x was based on it. Having those features with Harrison's DSP is something I'm very excited about.

And yes, it is no longer dependant on JACK. Waves Tracks Live is also based off of Ardour. The work on the backend was actually started because of Waves developing Tracks Live, but Ardour and Mixbus now also benefit from the work done and now can use various audio backends. Something to note actually, as Tracks Waves Live is also based on Ardour, you can now open sessions recorded in Tracks Live with Ardour/Mixbus.

Your reaction seems a little out of order, since nobody here claims Harrison Mixbus is worhtless. But since you apparently know something more than the rest of us, what is there in v3, that is not in the latest version of Ardour and wasn't already in Mixbis 2.x ?

As I said, the plans they announced seem good, but for the moment, I suspect that what we get is Ardour 4 with the old Mixer reskinned. But I will upgrade, nevertheless, since I think that what's new in Ardour justifies that, and I presume that the Ardour will take some benefir from it anyway.

As alot of us got this for $20 I'm sure the upgrade will be equally no brainery : D

Apologies if the tone came across in that way. It wasn't my intention by any means.

This is what I suspect as well, not that it's a bad thing. Harrison added stuff to Mixbus 2.x that wasn't in Ardour, so it had something up on it in a few ways at that point. Now though, a lot of those features have been incorporated into upstream Ardour and a lot of work that has been done lately with Ardour seems to be more direct collaboration in preparation for Mixbus 3. So I don't know what's new, that is not in the latest version of Ardour and wasn't already in Mixbus 2.x. I'm eager to find out myself.

For anyone wanting to find out what's new in general, you can go to the blog section (https://community.ardour.org/node) at ardour.org. There you can look up the changelog for the various releases since Ardour 3. Mixbus 3 is based on Ardour 4.1. A bit confusing I know :)

This really needs a demo version.

I think its awesome, stuff just sounds better when run through it to me.
Not always the sound you want. But definitely worth it imo.

The midi and 64 bit is a welcome change. The midi editing isn't the best I've
encountered but perfectly doable. I've not had any problems with plugins
yet either.

Again, it just sounds great...

40$ upgrade is a no brainer...

-Cheers

demo version would be cool.
does anyone know if it can handle multi-out vsti's better than ardour4? might be cool for bouncing stuff out...
Feed the children! Preferably to starving wild animals.

Yeah the multitimbral thing might be an issue for some. I've only been playing with
it for a short time, while it sees all the channels, I cant see any way to route them
as yet. Also I've encountered some issues with midi and multi-out vsts. The midi seems
to be getting lost for some of the channels.

Could be that I just dont know wtf im doing with it as yet.

-Cheers

*Edit: Yeah purely multi-out vsts not working out of the box that I can see.
I would think you could do it with ardour or jack, but haven't found a way as yet.
