Actually, there is. its tweakability is misleading... I mean, it gives users the OPTION to be "the best that suit their need" BUT that option comes with a heavy (too heavy IMO) toll : learning all the options is just (WAY) too time consuming - FF Pro Q2 just don't have it. DMG EQl always gives the impression that you COULD have got better results if only you could understand what this-and-that parameter means.Robmobius wrote:Krzysztof Oktalski wrote:Hey Rob,Robmobius wrote: DMG's EQuilibrium is also a good choice too, but it a tad more cumbersome than the FF (imo).
Out of interest, what makes you say this? We've spent a lot of time UX testing EQuilibrium to make sure, when properly configured, it's the fastest tool we could make it for each user. We'd be interested to hear if there's any way we could improve but we get very few suggestions in this area now, which led us to believe users are predominantly satisfied. If there's something that slowed you down, we'll endeavour to fix it asap.
There's northing wrong with EQuilibrium
LOSS AVERSION ? y'now ?
users don't like feeling like they "lost" a better way to manipulate the tool, y'know what ah mean ?
That is the price with giving us too many options. and to quote from Sound on Sound :
But I don't want to "exercise a bit of self-discipline to know when to stop fiddling with EQ bands" !With this much flexibility on offer, you need to exercise a bit of self-discipline to know when to stop fiddling with EQ bands and make some music!
I (we) want to make music !
BTW, I own ALL DMGA Eq's...

Those aren't really problems with Equilibrium though, are they? That's just you.

Equilibrium of course, read the manual and than set it up to fit your needs, if you can't be bothered to invest time into that, than just get ProQ and watch some You Tube video about it....but, sooner or later you will start getting GAS attacks and ProQ will not get in the way of them
Check Equalize from Acon Digital too while you are at it

This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here?

After own Equilibrium before I tried ProQ2. Several options I really like but not enough to replace dmg curve options. Disagree with the options thing, it's absolutely a preference, nor do you have to learn everything to make music. I learned a few curves I really like, customize UI the way I like and gone to work.
But then I'd also argue Equick is a more direct comparison to ProQ than Equilibrium.
It honestly don't matter which EQ you choose, other than bx UI is exceptionally good for MS but missing couple filter types (notch and steeper HP/LP, which exists in bx_hybrid instead)

Just download both demos...HcDoom wrote:Can someone test Pro-Q 2 phase modes? And show us results plus little review?
Maybe also a difference between Equilibrium and Pro-Q 2?
Thx

You obviously didnt understand...I dont know how to test phases in this special software which shows all those responses, etc. :p I know how to test for aliasing, but not for phases and I have problem understanding test graphs.Robmobius wrote:Just download both demos...HcDoom wrote:Can someone test Pro-Q 2 phase modes? You test it by listening to it. If it does stuff you like, great. If it doesn't, also great, because you won't feel the desire to buy it.HcDoom wrote:You obviously didnt understand...I dont know how to test phases in this special software which shows all those responses, etc. :p I know how to test for aliasing, but not for phases and I have problem understanding test graphs.
The phase modes simply allow you to select different trade offs - in general the natural phase mode should generally be better on transient heavy material and at high frequencies. But that doesn't mean it works for everything.

I know this is an old thread, but I want to share my reasoning behind preferring Pro-Q 2, even though Equilibrium is more exciting to me.Krzysztof Oktalski wrote:Hey Rob,Robmobius wrote: DMG's EQuilibrium is also a good choice too, but it a tad more cumbersome than the FF (imo).

In Equilibrium, when I shift a band around in frequency it results in CPU spikes and audio dropouts, even in the low CPU mode. Pro-Q 2 is completely smooth for me even at the highest settings.

I do use it a lot, in Cubase 8.5 / Windows 10, but it has been relatively smooth for me. No spikes or dropouts.

It works fine for me as well today. Good news I guess!Nightpolymath wrote:I do use it a lot, in Cubase 8.5 / Windows 10, but it has been relatively smooth for me. No spikes or dropouts.
One more thing I don't fully understand is why the refresh rate setting goes up to 50Hz. Most screens are 60Hz and Pro Q's 60 look noticably smoother because of it.
It should just have a "Max" refresh setting that locks to the screen's refresh rate, in my opinion.

I haven't tried the other two but ProQ-2 is ridiculously efficient - less than 1% per instance. The Natural Phase mode sounds instantly better (more natural) than anything else I put it up against (H-EQ, Master-Q 2 and a bunch of others).

I love the Pro Q for clean bread and butter EQing. I haven't used DMG's EQ but I'm sure it's solid (and their new Limitless limiter is starting to replace Ozone's for me).
I own bx_digital V3 and it's still a new plugin for me so it hasn't seen tons of use yet but I forsee it being my main mastering EQ. The bx stuff in general is fantastic but does have learning curve. In fact Plugin Alliance stuff has been pretty sweet for me.
Anyways, for me it's DAW EQ for basic cuts / shelfs, Pro Q for fine editing and m/s stuff, and PSP's EQ27 for a colored EQ (it's fantastic and deserves the 10/10 reviews imo). I also own Air EQ, Slate VMR (the neve EQ is very good), and the Sly Fi Axis which is like the V3 for me atm (meaning I need to get around to it).
