For me Reason has become somewhat estranged. I was actively using it through version 7. I updated to 8, and now even have 8.3. But I have not used it since v7.

So while I really like Reason, it is just not my goto DAW at the moment. I would not say it is flawed. It just feels busy to me. I am still blown away by their mix console and love the great layout. I love working in Blocks and would love to see Cubase adopt this. But today it just feels like a different beast to me.

Also better graphics all the way around. Alot of solid suggestions here so far.
Full color customization would be a great idea.
The piano roll could be better as well.

Looks like one common request is for a larger/updated piano roll. I agree.

The small size is the reason (no pun intended) I never got into Reason.

I visualize attempting to perform surgery from space with a long surgical tools... Awkward and unusable for me.

That's kind of how I feel about all 3D modeling and rendering packages, but I'm not talking about visibility in that case :hihi:

Yeah, about those graphics...I generally like the app's graphics, the renderings are all quite nice IMO, but like others have said, perhaps a bit small. Like adjusting knobs, plugging in cables at the back of the rack, that sort of stuff.

So I would love to see real progress & ongoing development with the SDK. I know they have just upgraded it recently & that is cool.

Also agree about Reason as Rewire master, then I might get into that!

I would like to see a quicker and easier way to adjust the faders on the (old) mixer. Changing all the faders with the value of '1' or '2' is a daunting task. The best way to adjust mixer faders is to scroll with the wheel on the mouse. There's a little freeware program that does that but to work with it is not that effortlessly.

I take back what I said about not liking the look of 8 compared to 6.5.. I actually like it now "overall". I prefer the transport bar in 6.5..

a one click zoom that fills up more screen in edit mode for the piano roll would be great. and a one click horizontal and vertical in session view.....

It's even more pronounced if you use Thor on the iPad. That is a much better user experience than the rack version and only reminds me how small the Reason version is. I'm still on 6.5 and have no plans to upgrade.

I saw a couple of very inexpensive copies of Version 7 sold in the market place here... needed to hold my horses to not purchase, but i figure it wouldn't be my cup of tea anyway, after fiddling with Reason Essentials for some time now. I can quite understand the points of critics like the GUI being small and fiddly, and the whole program getting more and more cluttered, plus i think that the included devices and sounds are not up to par with what you are offerend in the VST world nowadays. Still a great DAW for in the box use i guess, but it somehow doesn't click with me.

How about a 'Reason Rack' hardware unit: an all in one fanless tablet PC specifically made to run Reason and nothing else for as little cost and power as possible, with a new touch enabled interface to make it a pleasure to use. I'm not saying it is gonna happen, just IMO Reason would be a good candidate for something like that.

Clip view/session view. And an easy way of sidechaining. I have only played a little bit with the Reason demo and i kind of like the closed environment, but this two things make me not want to use it. Or the lack of it i should say.

I opened Reason yesterday after using a few other DAWs for another project I was working on. My first thought was "Damn I didn't realize just how much I love this new look in 8.3) Its so clean, well-lit, simple, and quick to move around in that it just feels like a breath of fresh air. After using several different DAW's recently, It just occurred to me how many of them now have the exact same look. Reason, as always, still feels like the outsider; But in a good way. BTW I was one of these guys thrilled when they offered the new expanded track color pallet. A project in 8.3 looks very different from one just a year ago. As far as what I'd like to see in the next version, a new revamped, enhanced version of Kong would be killer as its my favorite drum designer ever and I would also love a proper pitch corrector. Neptune is ok for subtle vocal pitch correction, but for creative use of pitch manipulation and sound design, reason still lacks. Even something like FL's Newtone would be really cool. But, If it has to come at the expense of Reasons rock solid stability, I'm good with going outside for that one thing. I'm excited to see what they bring us in version 9 though. Make us proud Props!
