Yes this is all new stuff, including the wrench etc. Together with the snapshots of plugins I have everything nicely organised now.

Just finished organizing effects, awesome. Instruments next.

One weirdness: I've been moving everything out of their original directory-based folders into functional ones (EQ, Dynamics, etc). When the last plugin gets moved out of a directory, it disappears from the browser, good, don't want any top-level vendor folders, just functions.

However, I have several effects by Distorque, which I've moved into their functional folders, but the parent Distorque folder won't go away. If I delete it, nothing happens. If I try to rename it, I get a new folder with the new name, and the Distorque one stays where it was. I've restarted Studio One, repeated all the above multiple times, it just won't go away. Not the end of the world, but annoying.

Now what?

You can have it be organized by vendor or category look at the top of the browser.

My apologies, apparently I'm out of order.

But I'm confused. How does this:

...relate to the fact that I can't delete my now-empty Distorque folder in Folder view? I must be missing something. Which totally wouldn't be the first time...

Well Folder/Vendor view allow different views.

I assume at this point you are in folder view and still have a vendor name such a Distorque? When I move all my plugins out of the vendor folder and into other folders the vendor folder just disappears when there is nothing left.

Yes, that's how it works for all other folders in folder view, but not that one, as I said. It didn't disappear when I took everything out of it, and I can't delete or rename it.

Next step I suppose is to look on disk for the file(s) Studio One uses to store that info, and see if I can understand what's up with that entry, and/or fix it.

i think your on Windows

But on mac the next thing I would do would go to the vst folder and make sure there isn't a distorque sub folder in the vst folder. If there is take everything out of it and move it to vst folder

Launch studio one and see if that helps?

Yes I'm on Windows.

And yes there's a Distorque folder in my VSTs folder in the file system, that's where the Distorque DLLs are, like for other vendors.

When I said folders in the Studio One browser go away when you take everything out of them, I meant if you take everything out of them in the browser's Folder view, not the actual directory in the file system. That's how every other vendor folder behaved for me.

I think there is a bug in the Windows version, or at least on Win10.

I'm in Vendor view, and it's still showing one plug-in that I've erased all signs of on my PC. I'm not sure it's the same thing, but it could be related.

Just to be sure, I tried to load that plug-in from the menu, and nothing happened. No track was created, and no plug was loaded.

I ended up having to Hide that folder and plug-in from the menu.

Win 7 Pro here. Funky.

I also have some user interaction suggestions for the file browser:
- Right-click menu should include New Folder At Root, so you don't have to scroll all the way to the bottom to create one
- You should be able to rename plugins as well as folders
- You should be able to easily copy (really create an alias to) an item to multiple locations in the tree, maybe with alt-drag (ex: might want channel strips to show up under Channel Strip, EQ, Compression, etc). The workaround, if you call it that, is to save presets in those locations, but that requires adding the plugin to a track, where alt-track would work directly in the browser.
- When you're dragging items into other folders, and hover long enough for a hovered folder to pop open, it should pop back closed when you leave it, unless you actually dropped your item(s) there, and maybe even if you did
- Related, it seems like the time to pop a hovered folder open gets radically shorter once you popped one during that drag, making a lot of other folders pop open accidentally
- It's especially annoying when a folder pops open above your intended destination, pushing that target down, and every folder you cross on the way to where you originally meant pops and stays open, pushing your target down even further, yadda

Some of those issues might well be fixed by fixing others of them. A UI person should do so user testing to figure out what works simply and non-annnoyingly.

But overall, the ability to reorganize this stuff is very awesome!

What I was trying to say is I think the reason it's in the studio one browser is because it's in the computers vst folder. If you take the vst files to the master vst folder (we don't have dll I don't know wtf that is) then delete it from the computer folder. Start studio one and it should be gone if not try to delete it once again from the studio one browser (may be leftover and need a delete)

I got what you mean, but moving the DLLs themselves isn't a good idea on Windows, and really shouldn't be necessary anyway.

The DLL files are the actual code guts of each plugin. In most cases, they're put where they are by the plugin's installer, and shouldn't be moved, both so the plugin's uninstall script knows where they are, and in case the code itself needs to locate other resources relative to its location (no idea how common that is).

But in every other case, even when there are DLLs in vendor folders in the file system's VST folder, removing everything from a folder in the S1 browser makes it vanish there. The DLLs are still out there, but the browser doesn't show that folder any more. Similarly, renaming or deleting a folder in the browser has no effect on the part of the file system where the DLLs are, but the browser shows the new name, or hides the item if it's been deleted. The browser "folder" tree is a figment, unrelated to the actual VST directory, which is unchanged.

All well and good, but in this one case, that figment is also a hallucination.

FWIW, semi-related, I've taken to prefixing my top-level functional folder names with '- ', like '- EQ'. I did that so when new plugins get added, if S1 puts them in a directory, it won't be one of mine (EQ maybe, but not '- EQ'), so I'll notice them at the end of the list and put them where I want them to go. Working out well so far.
