Though not trance, my all time favourite folk/electro workover is still Assassins of Sound's "Slipping in and Out of Consciousness". Awesome tune.

On a similiar tip, check out Bosnian artist "Adi Lukovac & Ornamenti". It's sort of prog/breaks/trip-hop with a lot of folk influences.

I'd personally like to hear any electronic dance version of Scarborough Fair, imo one of the nicest folk songs (and it's not my people's tradition, so this is totaly objective statement).

Folk & ethnic music is a great spice for anything, it gives it depth.

but somehow this also sounds like a Cd i have called Arabesque which has some fairly wigged out ethnic stuff on it and is damn fine.

The melody is definitely Nintendo-ish. I didn't see the folk influences so much though? And too bad I'm not very fond of these types of scales & melodies...

The kick sound is irritating, too "loose" and could use a more snappy attack phase... Interesting bass sound. Is that a loop or is made of multi samples?

If this was supposed to be trancey, there should be a more tight/active/kicking mood, or if this was supposed to be a more chilled-out tune, something else than straight 4/4, maybe some live percussions and possibly more atmospheric sounds... I see that this tune has more potential for atmosphere than dance music. And that's what I consied "trance" to be as a genre.
Of course _any_ music can be trance inducing if the listener is in a receptive state of mind, but I think it's good to have some definitions of genres when talking about music in this kind of specific context...

The first one is slow, very violin/viola-heavy psy-ish tune, and the second one happy 303-folk with just stunningly beautiful vocals.
Both are remixes I did for Gjallarhorn, my absolutely
most favourite ethno band in the whole wide universe!

Taika-Kim: Listened to the first tune, very "Sorten Muld" if you know them. Much more trance+folk than Liqih's tune (sorry, liqih). Quite excellent actually. I presume the violin is taken from the orignal tune and not programmed by you.

I wasn't that keen one the second remix but it was well mixed and produced anyway, just not as unique.

Are these gonna be released?

I don't know Nintendo music, anyway the folk referece in my melody is latin, a bit tango

now it got a new techno flamenco groove!

more accordion parts and a dub feeling that I love,

Yeah! You've given it a whole extra leg-up somehow. It seems to hold together a bit more from its disparate components, sounds more accomplished somehow.

But (for me...) as long as the accordion sound stays in, so does Sonic the Hedgehog

Hey, now I like this much better! Percussions are nicer too, except for the clap, which is a sound that rarely fits into _any_ tune IMHO :P

The melodies are more varied, there are harmonics and more variation in general. Nice :) It's too bad that I don't like the melodies too much.

I'm not familiar with latin or tango (I don't like latin music at all...), so no wonder I missed the ethnic feeling.

The kick sound is better now, but still doesn't fit the tune very well. Maybe too loud and powerful for the tune?

That Harptime bass is very good. I can't tell it from real, but then again, I'm not a bass player...

And about my tracks:
Yes, they _should_ be released. They are... what, hmm.. I think a bit over two years old now, and the band is still in the process of doing the remix album :) They do a lot of gigging so they're very busy.
Yes, all the acoustic elements in both tracks are played by the band.
I have a huge pile of material still left unused, and I've been thinking of doing a new remix, this time going really experimental and applying all the skills I've learned during the past two years...

ah, you wrote : Presets - no presets as such - but the randomiser is a good plan. Perhaps a breif range of presets might have been useful to inspire the new user.

yeah the clap is a cheesy sound but it helps me for the flamenco feel, <grin>

yes maybe too loud in the mix

That Harptime bass is very good. I can't tell it from real, but then again, I'm not a bass player...

it was an experiment to use that as bass, but it seems to give a usefull acoustic touch

about your tracks:
I enjoyed a lot the remix more than the song,

the song is quite nice as melody but the vocals
seem not groovy enough IMHO to stand the techno beat,
also I didn't find interesting bits in the arrangement.

On the contrary the remix got a beautiful and interesting arrangement, keeping the acoustic part fresh and adding the extra bits, both as sounds and structure, to make it interesting for a long listening

Great bass and the percussion sits in here quite well. That tango'ed harmonica is just great and so you

I love it where it gets doubled with the vibes.

Still that sound where it all starts with sounds off in a way, perhaps hollow it out a bit and put a band elim on it which moves in time

But this is my ears so please continue....

Hi Liqih - sorry if i wasnt clear, I just meant that the accordion sound just reminds me so much of Sonic the Hedgehog! But that's nothing to do with the quality of the track - just a connection in my memory..

Thanks for the presets though - I'll check them out today
