I wondered how they came up with Dorico... Here's what I found:

So apparently the devs were inspired by Brazilian Tylenol.
There are other languages besides english, you know? And music history had a very rich tradition outside of anglo-saxonic countries BTW. A quick search with Google brought me this:

"I started looking around for contemporaries and successors (note: of Ottaviano Petrucci), and came across the name Valerio Dorico, one of the most important music printers in Rome, active up until the middle of the 16th century. Although Venice – where Petrucci had plied his trade – was by far the most important centre of music printing in this period, responsible for more than 90% of all music printed in Italy in the 16th century, Rome was nevertheless an important city for music printing, and Dorico the most prolific tipografo plying his trade there."

The word also designates the first church mode (mode of D - dorian) in Portuguese, Spanish and Italian languages.

No, being bi-ethnic, and now living in a household where three languages are spoken, I only strongly suspected there were other languages besides English, but thanks for setting me straight. :?

I thought it was obvious my post was meant as a joke.

In case it wasn't... my post was meant as a joke. :ud:

I thought it was amusing. I also thought it explained the price they are asking for the software ;-)

Doritos is a world wide brand, so it isn't just sold in US or English speaking countries.

I think Steinberg will have to become used to "Doritos" jokes

Sorry, I didn't meant to offend you, but I kind of disliked the allusion to chemics :help:

Anyway, if you live in a household where three languages are spoken, I wonder why the word Dorico is meaningless to you. Unless none of the three is a latin language.

@ Numanoid: I don't see why "Steinberg have to become used to "Doritos" jokes". Speaking for myself, the Doritos thing didn't came to my mind even if remotely.

How often is Doric architecture discussed in households :D

Instead of Dorico Basic or Dorico Pro, Steinberg can call it Dorico Cheese, and Dorico Extra Cheese, the top model Dorico Loaded

They will probably leave something out just so they can include it in .5 update next year :ud:

Two are Latin-based. I vaguely thought of a Doric column (back from high school Greek studies, I guess), so it wasn't "meaningless". Still, I don't see how that knowledge was supposed to help me leap to the conclusion that Dorico was a 16th century Italian music engraver.

I guess I'm just failing to see your point here. It was a joke... a harmless one, I thought. Sorry if I offended.

To take an example:

When launching Vic-20 in Germany, Commodore chose to shorten it to VC-20 as "vic" could be interpreted into an obscene German word ;)

So if they were afraid that Vic should be interpreted as Fi*ken. I think Steinberg should take into account that Dorico could be interpreted as Doritos. That is just how the consumer mind works.

Very interesting..
Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

Huh? That's simply not true. There's a whole thread long ranting going on about some issue with UR audio interfaces. But, of course, if you just post "FU Steinberg, you a**holes!!", then that will be deleted, that is true.

I'm very intrigued by this. After just switching back to Cubase Pro, I'm curious to see how much synergy the two programs have. I already own Finale (not the latest version, but two or three versions old) and Sibelius 8. So if they can offer a pretty good price for Cubase owners or a crossgrade from other notation apps, that would be ideal.

I personally love the interface, at least based on the videos I've seen. It is better than Finale or Sibelius IMO.

I'm not TOO worried about the price. I wouldn't want to pay full price, but it is right in the sweet spot of the market. At Sweetwater, Finale full version goes for $479 and Sibelius goes for $599. So this hits somewhere in the middle. So if they are able to offer a feature set that is comparable, at least mostly, and maybe offer a crossgrade price, I may be a buyer. Has anyone seen any information on that? I admit I haven't looked at ALL the videos or posts about it, or the forums.

EDIT: It seems they WILL be offering a crossgrade. I think I saw in the Google search results that it will be around $299 (higher than the crossgrade to Finale or Sibelius), but can't find it on their page yet. But it does say they will have a crossgrade price. Hopefully it can come down a little more. But who knows.

Another little thing I noticed is that it appears Dorico was designed by the original team that wrote Sibelius. THAT is some good info to consider!
