How do you use panning??

I know ther are plenty of rules for every part of music creation, but sometimes I don't think people do enough creative use of 2 speakers. Listening to music with headphones, I have noticed some unique and sometimes jarring panning, stereoized effects.

I admit to going a bit crazy in some of my first songs. But I think that with some experimentation you can create some subtle efects that can grab the listener's attention.

In conclusion, I say experiment with creating an interesting 3-D space until you get dizzy.
