How do you acidize a wav file (slice & keymap)

I also pinged Dave an email about this thread to see if he can shed some light on the issue as he was talking about it in a recent conversation we had.
Maybe he can enlighten us once he gets my mail. :-)

Sound Forge will save the tempo (# of bests) and key of loop - also whether it is one-shot or loop. Acid pro will set the division markers but you can adjust them in the properties window. I don't think any actual slicing goes on (like rex).

For a loop to be ACIDized there needs to be two pieces of extra information stored as special "chunks" in the WAV file. The first chunk stores general information (like tempo, key signature, number of beats etc.) and the second contains markers that show the positions of the slices.

Most applications that claim to be able to export an ACIDized WAV in fact only write the *first* chunk. The only application that I know of capable of writing the second chunk is ACID. Therefore, if you want to author 100% true "ACIDized Music Loops" as they call them, you need a copy of ACID Pro. The "lite" versions don't seem have the necessary functionality either BTW.

In ACID, make sure you choose the track type "Loop". Go into the stretch page, set your markers to your satisfaction and then use the save icons in the corner to export the file. That's it!

A few tips on ACIDizing files to work well in AMG ONE/solo: our player doesn't feature any of the playback modes ACID uses. So its more senstive to where markers are placed than ACID itself is. My top tip is to set the "Force Divisions" parameter to "Whole Notes" and then bring up the transient detection gradually till you get markers in most of the right places, but none in the wrong. Once you get to the point where the transient detection is putting markers where there shouldn't be any that's the time to stop. It is possible to more or less preview slices in ACID - by highlighting an area in the wave display you can play it. It's not as good as a slice preview but can really help.

The final step would be to insert any remaining markers that weren't auto detected, and then zoom in to be sure all your markers are spot-on.

In this way you'll get a sliced beat that works perfectly in apps like AMG ONE/solo or Phatmatik Pro.

Thanks Dave
Seems to answer the question ...
Thanks for the Tips!!

No. SF wont even save as ACID. You can edit Acid loops but thats about it from i can make of it.

I got hold of a full versi0on of ACID latest version and used the BeatMapper to create a acidized file.

I still could not get Cyclone to read the sloce information.

It looks like all the slice information can be put in a wav file since all acidiized loops you can buy are wav files.

ACIDized files ARE just .wav files ...

... with extra data chunks added to contain tempo and slice info etc ...

... you SHOULD be able to load any ACIDized .wav into a normal .wav player anyway - it will just ignore the extra data

(i think)

For what it's worth...

I have been talking to Peter Segerdahl (creator of BeatCreator) about this issue. BeatCreator 3.0 does, in fact, save all of the Acid information - including the slice points.

thanks a lot for the explanation Dave , it's good that the mystery about the ACID format could be revealed.
Loops created with your method in Acid Pro 4 work very well with the One/Solo demo , i can confirm this.

Excellent plastique!!!
Glad you can confirm this.
Now i am Interested to see if Beatcreators loops will open in one/solo.
Anybody try this?

I was able to use the ACID full version (new version) and I used the Beatmapper to make a acid file but still
Cyclone DXi could not see the slices.

Acid files are wav files so it is possible to store slice information in wav files.

Post

sohala , i'm not sure if it possible to use the beatmapper to create loops , cause there's a clear difference between "loops" and so called "beatmapped files" in Acid.
If you want i can send you the loop i tested with the One/Solo demo to try with your Cyclone instrument per email.

Thanks Dave. That is the clearest I've ever heard it explained. :)

Also sohala....
Cyclone is by Cakewalk and in Sonar there is a Loop tool which detects the transients and then you can save the wav.
Have you tried using this to see if cyclone loads these CakeWalk Groove clips proper?

This method has worked for me. I haven't dl'd Solo/One yet though for the next step.
