You are right.
My wishful thinking did not allow me to think as this being the official no
VST for HH! Hey, as pointed out FL Studio is a full DAW and it is a VST!

Post

Yup and also RaxnTrax runs as a VST via a bridge, which I believe is similar to how FL does it

Personally, I would much rather it remain as it is

Hmmm. I bought Usine for use as a VST, and bought into HH because it was mooted as the 64-bit equivalent with VST as an intended feature; as it is, though doesnt suit me as a fully contained standalone thing, doesnt gel.
That feature's absence (combined with the ever-changing purchasing model) was pretty much why I dropped out of continuing with HH2 etc, which is a shame because I really liked it conceptually, as a 'controller-y synthesis toolkit thingy' but as a full platform, it actually just got in the way for me, too many cognitive dissonances.
VST would have been ideal, or even just Rewire. But as a closed system, didnt work out for me.

Yup, pretty much voiced my opinion.

I won't be upgrading again

Yeah, I was a bit bummed when I read that as well.
My subscription has run out and I'll have to see if I'll renew it for HH3.
Somehow Bitwig Studio & Reaktor 6 have me pretty much covered and Plogue Bidule runs as VST for cases where I need more flexibility, even thought it's not my favourite tool and misses the GUI building abilities and intuitive modulation Usine allows for.

I still have a soft spot for Usines concepts though and hope for the best.
Let's see if Sensos claim about HH3 on that thread is justified.

Cheers,

Tom

I would like to revive this thread to see what people think of Usine Hollyhock 3 now that it has been out for a little while. Not too many reviews online, but am wondering how users here are using it and if they like it. Any thoughts are welcome.

Thanks in advance!

 should have looked closer, bloody small screen and my sh**try eyes!!
Still, below opinion applies to whatever version I have :)

Its just difficult to get your head around at first, guess I would like a traditional option, block style, build a block and place on timeline, bit like video editing, as the feature set makes for great creativity :)

So I take it that you would recommend it as an adjunct to a standard DAW, for "sonic explorations"?

Its capabilities are basically what you choose to put into it, I haven't fired it up for a while, trying to get to grips with wot " another daw" has to offer,
You can get it going as a traditional daw, its got timeline and such and good tutorials. But its possible to get it 2b really random, which I  as I am very random both in nature and in creativity :)
There's a free version available no?
Can't remember, would check but my flittering is based here 2nite, have a look, try it out, check the included tutorials, can get vmodular and vnoodly goodness :)

I haven't even given it a try but just looking at videos on YouTube it seems overwhelming, and probably that's the reason it's not more popular—at least I believe it's not a popular product. It looks like a great tool for random live experimental electronic music but that's about it. IMO too much randomness and little structure is not what audiences want, so the only way I see this integrated into my workflow would be as a complement to a regular DAW. A balance of randomness and structure is what works best. A VST version of this would be dope.

Gave it a go before he changed it's name.
I seem to remember everything being really convoluted, and having to download numerous other modules, just to do stuff.

Now, the new name just reminds me of "Hockey Hall", and that's as far as i get

I am waiting for Hollyhock 4!
My feeling is that it will be the second half of 2019.
But sooner better as I would like to what new feature might be useful to my music making.
Also will like to see if HH4 will be offered as a VSTi. Sadly unlikely!

The reason I like it is that is is fully multi-touch! :tu:
