Aren't music made with instruments banned in general under Islamic law ?

https://wikiislam.net/wiki/Islamic_Law#Music_and_Art

"During the Taliban rule of Afghanistan between 1996 and late 2001, ...anyone caught with cassettes in their possession were jailed" :o

Post

Dude, that's an anti-islam propaganda site.

Anyway, some muslims do indeed believe that instruments are not acceptable, most don't care. Islamic musical tradition is ancient, rich, fascinating and alive.

Being criticial is different from being anti

The BBC banned "I am the Walrus" because it says "knickers" in the lyric. They also banned "Give Ireland Back to the Irish" by Paul Macartney and played the B-side "C Moon" instead.

Yes, but that site is still anti-islam propaganda.

Those sites are about The Taliban in Afghanistan. They're pretty much extremists. Hardly representative of Islam.

just a friendly reminder of the fine line between this staying here or HPC, just asking everyone to be mindful of it okay? :)
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Zappa's 10 days inside informed his work from then on.
"there's 44 men stashed away in Tank C
and there's only one shower but it don't apply to Bobby"

what he actually did was record an audio tape with a woman he knew doing fake arousal cries and moans, squeaky up and down bedsprings etc. So the 'recreational activities' track on the original Torture Never Stops reflects that event specifically.

and of course "I can't wait to see what it's like on the outside, now"...

but it was a wake-up call, he started to get a glimpse of the whole picture now as to society and control...

The topic itself is political per se. Give us a break and move it already. :)

so far so good imo, but then I'm not the only who can make that call...I'd rather not yet though

hopefully it can stay in this context :tu:

just that 'keep a very very tight asshole' and 'be mindful' are not necessarily synonymous

my post regarding Frank Zappa, having already been mentioned as having been incarcerated as though he was a professional pornographer (in a sting operation) - noting that this experience informed his consciousness as to the joke 'polite society' presents - is I would say mindful while acknowledging the fact of censorship in the world as per the thread title.

Later, a bit 'Mama with her apron and her pad / feeding all the boys at Ed's Cafe' was deemed by someone at the record company to be a reference to menstruation (and feeding men her menstrual blood? WTFF) and spliced out of the record We're Only in it For the Money, cementing FZ's idea on hypocrisy and bad mental hygiene of the powers-that-be in this world.

CF:
A world of secret hungers,
perverting the men who make your laws
every desire is hidden away,
in drawer, in a desk,
by a Naughahyde chair
on a rug where they walk and drool
past the girls in the office

You see, in the back of the City Hall mind
the dream of a girl about thirteen
Off with her clothes and into a bed,
where she tickles his fancy all night long

Donald Trump: "She's hot! I'd date her, if she wasn't my daughter"

If she were MY daughter I'd...
What would you do, Daddy

If she were MY daughter I'd...
What would you do, Daddy

If she were MY daughter I'd...
What would you do, Daddy

I'd smother my daughter in chocolate syrup,
and strap her on again, Oh baby!
Smother that girl in chocolate syrup,
and strap her on again!

She's a Teenage Baby, and she turns me on,
I'd like to make Her do a nasty
on the White House Lawn!
Gon' smother that daughter in chocolate syrup,
and boogie till the cows come home!

Time to go home,
Madge is on the phone
Gotta meet the Guerneys and a
dozen gray attorneys

TV dinner by the pool
I'm so glad I finished school
Life is such a ball
I run the world from City Hall

are we there yet ;)

That deserves a :tu:

Depends what you mean by censorship.

The Sloop John B by The Beach Boys had a line in it "drinking all night got into a fight".
At school that line was removed from the song book to stop people drinking all night and getting into a fight.
12 year old kids needed to be protected from such despicable lyrics.
Sigh. As our music teacher said "they removed the lyrics...to stop you all getting drunk..pathetic".
