It wouldn't be adding any extra instruments or vocals - but to be more "ABBA" like - can I add harmonies using plugins or pitch shifting? I'm experimenting with Izotope Nectar 2 Pitch Editor and can create harmonies. That should still fall within the guidelines of using only what has been provided and be simply taking advantage of the plugins I have access to. There would be no replacement, just modification of the original tracks.ThePresent wrote:Well, I guess it's my turn then
I don't mind beefing up sounds whether it be saturation, slapback delays, simulated rooms, room impulses or whatever as long as the original tracks are kept into the song. If the result pleases me,(read my provided information) I think it should be okay. Just don't add any extra instruments or replace tracks. For example, I wouldn't want anyone to add an extra guitar or synth or even a singer playing/singing along the original. Treat the mix like you can't play any instrument and you don't know a musician to help you outyou're just a mixer, in this case anyway.
Btw I really don't know what Slate Trigger does

Well that got me thinking. I feel like "no thank you". It would add a whole new thing to the entire production, could probably be a very interesting enhancement but I would like to compare the mixes purely on mixing skills, not on production ideas.
So again, thank you
but: no.
So again, thank you

I understand. If given the mix job in a real life scenario, I might offer it as an option. It can sure end up sounding nice! Maybe after the contest I can finish up on that idea just so you can hear it...ThePresent wrote:Well that got me thinking. I feel like "no thank you". Well creating harmonies is definitely adding to the "producing" part, but what about creating virtual double tracks (ADT, micro-pitching, chorus, etc)? It's a thin line in this case for sure. But I think this route (chorus, ADT, etc) is still acceptable and does more count towards mixing.

Then that's a clear answer:
Harmony Creation (with pitch shifting) => no
Voice Doubling (ADT, Chorus, MicroPitch Shifting) => yes
And from the previous page:
Drum Replacement => no
Drum "enhancement" (Transient Designer, parallel compression, different filter, etc) => yes
With that said - including today, 12 days left to mix.

Hi all,
I am so sorry that I have to pause this and maybe also next round. I like the track and the style very much, because I grew up with ABBA.
But last week I got a heavy otitis of the middle ear. Now my right ear is closed and has a hole in the ear-drum
My inner ear is OK according some tests of the docotor. He said I have to be patient and everything well get OK after a while (weeks? months?...
)
So I hope I see and hear you soon!

Ears for AE's are the most important tools, so take your time for resting and healing. The Mix Challenge won't run away that soon.
