Another question, this time regarding Sforzando; I downloaded the Sfz instruments for Sforzando that have a GUI. Only TimeWarp 2 works, the other libraries from Karoryfer, the Estate Grand LE and SMDrums don't have any GUI when I load them and click on the controls tabs (or any other tabs for that matter). I have the latest version of Sforzando. Do I miss something?

Also, do the reverb works in Sforzando? When I turn it on and play with the controls I don't hear anything. :?
Instruments (with GUI) that need to be 'registered' by dragging in the xml file (like the Karoryfer, the Estate Grand LE and SMDrums) should not be placed in your user folder...you should see their names in the load dropdown alongside the 'Freesounds' and 'User' entries.

To hear the reverb turn up the 'send' knob up the top.

I guess you just getting started, I'm sure you will make great sfz stuff soon!
And once you dig deeper into ARIA's extension (making use of the #define. #include, etc.) I bet you'll getting more excited for the format.
Plogue's sfz forum is a great place for sfz stuff, I learn a lot from there. David Viens and Eric T really helpful, as well as PL Jones!

My site's got the SFZ 1 opcodes that René defined for sfz-1.97 -- they should work on most SFZ-compatible samplers (though Kontakt's support used to be minimal to dire). Simon Cann's "Cakewalk Synthesizers" has both SFZ 1 and SFZ 2 opcodes listed and described - although it does focus on Cakewalk, the descriptions are applicable in general with some specific exceptions on Sforzando, where some of the clunky, vague or limited SFZ 2 stuff has been slightly re-imagined :).

It's a while since I did any mappings, though. DSmolken (Karoryfer) is around here generally, though, as is bigcat1969 - both have done some very nice mappings (though bigcat1969 does Kontakt more now, I think).

Sam Gossner of Versilian Studios (who produces the Versilian Chamber Orchestra Sample Library) developed a File-to SFZ 2.0 converter that works quite well.

Sam quite generously no longer charges for it :hail:

It offers:
- Rapid mapping of large sets of raw samples as .sfz 2.0 format in seconds.
- Automated mapping of velocities, pitches, and RR's according to file name.
- Flexible, ultra-customizable dictionary system allows usage of almost any sample naming convention.
- Able to cope with missing RR, varying velocity layers, and all sorts of issues.

Here is a video walkthrough:

Sam's YouTube channel has two more sfz tutorials, on mapping percussion and his free orchestra. Thank you very much, Sam!

You can download the SFZ Converter here:

I didn't know that Sam Gossner's Sfz Converter was this good! I discarded pretty quickly when it came out, I thought it was just a small utility. I have large unreleased sound sets with multiple velocities that would need this software to speed up the process (otherwise, it would took too much time).

Is it possible to deal with round robins with Sfz? If so, how do I select the type of round robin I want?

Post

Round robin opcodes: seq_length and seq_position for fixed, lorand and hirand for random.

Also, Sam's File to SFZ Converter has buttons to select Round or Random (see my previous post). His mapping tutorial touches on that:

Finally got around watching Sam's Sfz video tutorials. This is quite useful for big, complex orchestral instruments. It'll speed up the process for the type of sounds I want to sample (old synth recorded on tapes).

Thanks for all the help!

Oh hey, since this thread got bumped, might as well mention https://sfzformat.com/ has been populated with opcode info now, we have a few tutorials, and a list of software.
