I strongly disagree regarding bx_megasingle. I've thoroughly tested it, and it doesn't even sound anywhere near a real Mesa Boogie. To my ears, it produces a dull, lifeless, boring sound.

I would recommend IK's emulation. The Mesa amps emulated there sound like real amps - which is why IK is entitled to use the offical Mesa Boogie brand for the software.

The IK Mesa pack inside AT4 is hard to beat.

+1 on IKM Mesa amps. They are probably IK Multimedia's greatest achievement :tu: 8)

Really? Ik's might be the closest of ampsims but "sound like real amps"? No way! It's an emulation and nothing more. Period.

also, maybe try the joyo 'california sound' pedal...

But is it supposed to sound like a real Amp or a real Amp recorded?

That's a great question. I've always worked on the assumption that an ampsim should sound like a real amp, recorded and played back through my DAW. Let's be honest, even the greatest 4x12 loaded with greenbacks will sound different if you stand in front of it compared to if you record it and play it through your monitors.

So yeah, to me, an ampsim should sound like a real amp recorded.

When trying to replicate an iconic sound, you need to be able
to thoroughly edit the commonly used cab, room and mic situations.
Amplitube and Headcase are good for that. Don't have any experience
if competing products can do likewise.

I'd also venture that any hit tunes that were made with Mesa Boogie
that are iconic enough to demand a quality emulation,
will find the duplication efforts falling flat without the player
having similar playing skills evident in the actual songs of interest.

I'd mention minor variables like guitars, strings, pickups, picks,
callous thickness, humidity etc but I'm pretty hopeful the thread will hit 10 pages
without outside assistance :hyper: Lots of sims I've not heard of before
to google as time permits.
Cheers

IK Multimedia's newest Mesa/Boogie collection is really good. I have a real MK V and have been getting great results with the IKM Mark IV and Rectifier stuff. Saving a setup/preset in Amplitube is way easier to get back to your tone than to re-mic your amp and dial it in every time (if you are using your amp outside of the home).

It has been a year though since we've gotten new gear in the Custom Shop though. Unfortunate, as I have really enjoyed the latest Marshall and Mesa amps. Hopefully they will redo some Vox or do some Matchless amps next.

Pectifier is really something worth trying.
