Do you mean "any softsynth like Project 5 CAN" or "any softsynth SUCH AS Project 5"? It will run any softsynth (VSTi, AU, etc.) but Project 5 isn't a softsynth, so it cannot run it inside of Live.aaastronomer wrote:just getting used to live 3.0...now 4.0, with midi?...can you run any soft synth (like project 5)?
Disclaimer: You probably knew that Project5 wasn't a synth, but I just wanted to make sure I understood the question

False alarm. I can get to the site now....and no betadrez wrote:Could be a DNS problem, as I can't resolve www.ableton.com through nslookup. Hopefully its not, but it kinda looks that way.

Instead of dickin around with vst's all the time,,I'd like to be able to double click the master line to bring up a little mixer with tracks and master section, even if it's just pan and fader cause I use it mostly for live multitracking with rewire backtracks.
I also found live guitar to be a real problem when changing tempo,,hopefully they've made that easier.

'like project 5 can...'
know project 5 isn't a soft sythn...use it a lot nowdays with z3ta+ and rhino replacing pysn, but after live 4...?
it would be kind of interesting to be able to run project 5 or kinetic inside live, but also unnecessary...
i just saw the live 4 description in the K-v-R news and that answered my first question, but thanks for the quick response!
another question, two midi effects are mentioned in the news: "The 'Scale' effect, for instance, forces incoming notes onto a chosen musical scale and fits well with 'Random', which creates specified random pitch deviations."
what are the other three?
thanks for any answers

Check out the "MIDI DEVICE". Those appear to be what they offer.
BTW, if Project5 supports rewire (I think it does) then you can rewire live4 into it

You can slave project5 to live (live being master) but not the other way round.

Yeah makes sense.Yes, you could just move the midi notes, but the cool thing about warp markers is that you can "lock" them and shift EVERYTHING between markers a different amount. You could quickly lock all of the notes into a groove by moving a warp marker and not have to move individual notes...plus you could do some crazy changes with warp markers that would be tedious with regular note editing.
About your original question, have you tried emailing Ableton or post it in their forum. When they announced live 4 they did answer a few questions but they have been real quiet lately.
Sounds like the cake is almost ready.

Ok latest news is: (and I quothhhhhhhh)
First of all we are very pleased about your great reactions on the announcement of Live 4. And we have to apologise for not being so present in the forum and answer all your questions about Live 4. But currently we all work hard all day long to make our new baby ready for you.
Unfortunately we cannot give you an exact date for the beta yet but at least we can say that you shouldn't postpone your appointments for the weekend. It will probably need the next week to make the version beta ready.
Because we expect so many of you would want to download already the first beta version which would produce many postings of the same bugs, we decided to restrict the first beta to 500 registered users, so we can focus on fixing bugs and reduce the effort to maintain the beta forum. The first 500 will get a personal beta serial number. But don't worry, further versions for more of you will come pretty soon.
Please participate only in the first round if you are willing to report bugs. Otherwise settle back and wait some days and you will get an even better version from the beginning.
So, use your "free" weekend, make some music, make sure you are registered and we will all see us next week. And now I will dive back into the source code.
Kind regards, Bernd
