Something like Process Explorer https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sys ... 96653.aspx should be fine to show the used capacity or?woodsdenis wrote:Wouldn't it be great if a developer made a plugin that just used up CPU in a measurable way and nothing else. I am not super technically minded, I assume it would have to be something that was hosted inside the DAW to give a reading ? The bone of contention always is X is more efficient than Y. In its most basic sense it would be how many of the "TEST" plugin can you load.Autobot wrote:Something like Process Explorer https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sys ... 96653.aspx should be fine to show the used capacity or?woodsdenis wrote:Wouldn't it be great if a developer made a plugin that just used up CPU in a measurable way and nothing else. I'm not sure why the CPU usage information per application provided by the operation system would not be a reliable measure.

Anyway, back on topic. No idea. The only way to find out is to use them and see what happens I guess.
If you dig around the web you'll probably see different people saying both things at various times so, you probably won't know what group you'll belong to until you try them on your system. Obviously, not possible for Cubase 9 yet since there is no demo yet.

That I fully agree with- testing on your own machine, with your plugins in a project relevant to your intended use is definitely the most accurate method for reaching a reliable conclusion.
That's the reason I originally tested, I read that Bitwig is heavier on CPU than other DAWs, well, best way to check interwebs rumours like this is to test yourself.

Encourage anyone to do stress test, see how DAW behaves on higher loads and close to reaching system limits, it's all dandy for someone who isn't reaching 50% of his system potential opposed to other who is hitting 90-100%. Think majority of people complaining are ones hitting the limits, not ones not having to think about such things.
This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here?

I encourage anyone to grow a brain.
If they were all the same, there wouldn't be but a smattering of people discussing it. However, there are certain hosts that are discussed AD NAUSEAM about the subject. They CAN'T all be wrong.
The details are no longer important because people having problems are dismissed (entirely) even if it's a large percentage for a certain host.

Holy shit, do you even realize that you're literally advising to blindly believe every internet rumour based purely on your arbitrary popularity rating over a simple, repeatable test that actually gives concrete answers?
Do you even know what a brain is
