Two very important questions.

1) Were the strings recorded dry or with reverb?

2) What mic positions were recorded?

1) it seems that there is always 'room' or 'hall' in the sound, even without the reverb dialed in.

2) i am sure this doesn't even matter in this particular package.........

Actually, mic positions matter a ton. Close mic, you can do a lot more with as far as FX processing. Mid mic, not so much and far mic, absolutely nothing.

I'm asking because, stupidly, when I bought EWQL Hollywood Strings, I bought the gold edition which doesn't contain close mics. Big mistake. Should upgrade but just can't see it at this point. But, if for a buck, I can get close mics, I can mix them in with the EWQL stuff and it will probably sound pretty good.

If you read online, users report that there are bugs with the player. Everything you mention is old news. I'm just reporting what I've read...not trying to start something. For a $1...you could use the good articulations (that work and sound real) as a supplement to a full featured library. So, for the price...it's worth it. Still, ygwypf imho.

According to other owners of the Kontakt version, they claim this is a repackage of that library with Sonivox's own player.

I think you misunderstood me. Ofcourse mic positions matter. But, not with this package...believe me. The gap between EW and this package is HUGE (in favor of the EW packages)

But you can't separate the mics. There's a room sound on everything..not drastic, quite pleasant, but always there.

Okay, you know the old saying, "You get what you pay for." And no, I'm not talking about the $1 strings. I get that they're not the greatest in the world, but they sound usable.

What I'm talking about is the $68 upgrade for all that stuff. I went through the table of contents and the first thing I asked myself was "What's the catch?"

Correct me if I'm wrong. Wasn't Sonnivox bought out by AIR? Or at least don't they now control all Sonnivox products?

So what's the deal with this $68 upgrade? Are we only getting this because it's all old stuff and they figure "Eh, what the heck, let's sell it for next to nothing and whatever we make from it is gravy" or is this stuff really bad?

It would seem that Timewarp 2600 alone is worth the $68. Some people say it's better than Arturia's but some people say it's not. I'd be content if it was even close to as good.

But Timewarp aside, it seems like everything else is just gravy and being given away.

So yeah, I'm extremely skeptical. I don't mind throwing away a buck. I do that when I make a donation at the supermarket. But $68, that's an actual purchase. I can get many synths for $68, like that new synth by Sunrizer that I still never bought.

The drums also seem like they're usable.

But I mean, is all of this stuff even 64 bit? What kind of screen resolutions do the synths have? Are we talking Korg Legacy Collection size?

In short, is there anybody here who already owns all this stuff who can give me a Reader's Digest version on things like...

1) Sound Quality

2) GUI Size

3) 64 bit compatibility

And believe me, for $68, I'm not expecting something that sounds like Omnipshere. As long as the products sound similar in quality to what you'd get in something like NI Halion Sonic SE, I'm happy.

'mod wheel seems to work only on the violin espressivo patch. Also, when this patch is chosen, the spiccato articulation button actuates, even though the sound is still sustain...are you seeing this? I'm thinking my download was corrupted or something but maybe these things are bugs?'

Yes, I noticed the spiccato articulation was highlighted, but the sustains were playing. I haven't had a chance to email tech support, but will do so today.

Another $0.02

Personally, I'm not in the market for more strings. At a $1 buy-in of average quality, that takes up 9GB of SSD storage that one could use for a superior sample library, buying an entire average library of that magnitude in size, even at $68, that becomes obsolete with the presence of a superior library subsequently installed, would evoke my guilt of having bought something twice or buying something that later became unnecessary and unwanted. Unless I had an incomplete orchestra, I feel this deal is best suited for someone that needs an orchestral library. It seems like some of you have something better parked in the driveway...no need for a go-cart when you have a real car already.

G.A.S is expensive. Greed is a dangerous sin and marketing strategy.

Timewarp 2600 is a decent synth.

And the two other synths that come with it also look and sound pretty cool. The one drum kit also sounds nice.

The rest of it, eh, whatever. But might be worth it just for those items alone

Well, here's the deal. Timewarp 2600, right now at Pluginboutique, goes for $199.

So if I buy this package, I get Timewarp 2600 and everything else for $69.

Even if all you wanted was Timewarp 2600, it doesn't make any sense to buy it individually. Even if you didn't install anything else, you save $130.

That to me, if you want Timewarp 2600, is a no brainer.
