It's a shame you don't like the Cakewalk stuff. Sonar's got a lot of the great time-stretching / mixing features that Acid does (which I hear has pretty icky VST support) but better soft-synth support and is a track-based sequencer.

Though FL Studio is pattern based... it can be used as a track based sequencer by using large Piano-roll patterns. In fact, many of the advanced users work this way. Audio stretching isn't present, though.

actually i dont know much about the cakewalk stuff at all - am checking out the Project 5 demo now
maybe I'll have a look at Sonar too...
