Synth 1 emulates the interface and signalflow but not the sound. Discovery Pro is actually trying to approximate the sound but most Nordlead owners say that it is close but no cigar.

I have both Virus TI and Z3TA+2 and they sound very different. Spire is much closer to Virus in some aspects. Also you can approximate Virus wavetable part to some extent by putting Virus wavetables into Serum, though you will be missing out the Virus filters and effects which are very important part of its sound. Using Adam Szabo Phazor as an insert may help getting it closer a bit (granted that the sound needs a phaser).
egbert101 wrote: Also Adam Szabo has his Viper project which aims to get very close to emulating the Virus, which should hopefully be out this year.
This one looks and sounds very promising, at least the clips posted in the Viper thread do sound pretty similar to Virus (though the wavetable part is also missing, Adam said that it will be probably added later)
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

This one (yes, it's a $13,000 mono-synth):

Good luck getting any CPU to manage though. :hihi:

I think this was a rumor started by the VSTi community.. one that I frankly can not understand. They sounds absolutely nothing alike. Everything is "wrong" if it's supposed to be a virus emulation. Envelope shapes are all different, filters sound nothing like the ones in the virus, oscillators are completely different sounding (no matter how much you try to tweak), effects are all completely different sounding and behaving.

I have absolutely no idea how or why it was considered "sort of like a virus" when it's a completely different beast.

I doubt these will ever happen but I'd much rather see some 1:1 digital ports such as:-

Clavia Nord Modular/G2
Waldorf Q
V Synth
Kurzweill Vast
Virus TI/2
Korg Z1

Sequential Prophet VS, warts and all (but not necessarily the software bugs and the aftertouch sensitivity to the h/w sitting on a completely flat surface).

If it were easy, anybody could do it!
