How to play a guitar VST with a keyboard?

Hell, Search 'Jan Hammer' on YT or elsewhere He has always been the master at playing a synth like a guitar since the 70's.... In an interview in the 90's a guy was in his studio & pointed "Which one of these can you get to sound like a guitar?"... Jan replied "All of them, it's Easy to setup the sound the hard part is actually playing it like a guitarist"...

I used to play the 'Black Sheep' album for friends back in the late 70's & they would say "That's a helluva guitarist!" I would say "There's no guitar on the album!" then show them where it stated such on the back of the cover they then were speechless...

It can certainly be done, I knew a guy who could rip Still Got The Blues note for note.

He could play the entire solo to Hotel California .. I also remember him doing a note perfect version of November Rain.

One thing I noticed, was his left hand rested on the pitch wheel.
If he needed to stab or hold a chord, he would, but he would quickly move it back to the wheel.

He added very subtle pitch wheel to just about every note he hit, and it sounded very guitar like.

Mind you, he was an older guy, and said he had been practising guitar lines on synths for more than 30 years

I can't say that I've ever heard a keyboard player playing a fully convincing guitar part live. I've heard good, bad, and better attempts, but never one that didn't give itself away as a keyboard part. Now, of course, I might have heard something in a recording and didn't know it, how would you if it were convincing?

In any case, to the extent that it's possible, it's all about mimicking what the fingers are doing on strings.

Of course that's correct, but Jan Hammer sounds like a keyboard player trying to sound like a guitar player to me.

That's something I'm struggling with as well. I'm experimenting with Crescendo to help me with mapping the keys properly but switching playing techniques fast is quite a challenge. I'm trying to avoid key splits because it takes too much time to move the hand up and down the keyboard which affects the performance.
