Not sure I agree. They are a terrific product. I love them overall.
Maybe it's because they don't do VST's but it's CRAZY stable. And there are a ton of really musical aspects.
You know what would be nice, if they allowed transfers of RE's for a modest fee (Yeah, I know, won't happen)

When I was looking for my first daw Reason was my first choice until I learned they shut down their forums. Thats like saying pay me, now go away. Asking $129 for reason 9 upgrade showed me how they operate. The features did not come close to asking price. Features other daws already had. I see plenty of people posting they will hold out for another update who are a few version behind, some still using version 5. Then with rack extensions if you want something that looks decent it's another $300 for the kilohearts bundle after buying reason. Or I could buy a different daw where the plugins look decent aesthetically as a whole package. No vst support is like starving while you watch other people eat at the dinner table.
Outside of workflow it's a pile full of no thank you. This dinosaur needs to die.

Even the workflow is not all that, IMHO...

Yep. And a tedious one.neverenoughfunk wrote:i have to agree... everything in Reason is a workaround...EvilDragon wrote:Even the workflow is not all that, IMHO...
Even though, to be fair, it seems that mostly modular freaks are attracted that you can patch and route so much in Reason. But, considering it is supposed to be an ease of use "learn" kind of DAW, there is a bit of a contradiction.

This is the only thing about Reason that really pisses me off! I gave up after the last update to version 9. They've ignored this forever, and it doesn't seem like they'll ever change it. It's a shame because I really would like to use Reason, but it's annoying as hell to have to be subjected to such a glaring omission such as no "Auto Return Cursor" feature. Everything else about Reason is great.keel wrote:...Or that automatically returning playing cursor

To me, that's what makes Reason pretty cool. That's why I liked firing it up here and there, because it made me think a little bit more. I would end up doing different things. I had to change my mindset when using Reason, and I actually would totally get into it. That's what made it fun for me.chk071 wrote:Yep. When Reason was launched it was miles ahead of anything else, when it came to "DAW in a box", with everything included.
But time caught up with Props around the late 00's and since then they have been trying to catch up, rather than setting the pace

All I need from Reason in this Daw-eat-DAW world is Bidirectional Audio and MIDI.
Allow ReWire to send and receive audio, MIDI send and receive from Reason. Open Reason up to the DAW world and you'll have the new "Hardware ITB".
Reason is actually highly capable. It's a shame its either standalone or go home.

IMO, what PH needs to realize is that they can actually have the cake and eat it too in regard to Rack Extensions and VST/VSTi support. Yes, the RE format is convenient: syncs across platforms on your many setups, allows undo, can easily be demo'ed within a few clicks, allows for modular routing, etc.
If all the RE specific things are proven to add more value to the user, why not show some faith in that concept while opening the doors to those users who see more value in running Reason as an effect chain applied to their existing VST/VSTi stuff, e.g. for sound design purposes?
PH could then continue to market their own RE branch as a "more convenient" alternative to the VST/AU format and still allow for the VST/AU format so that users could discover the contrast and decide for themselves. Such a move forward would certainly vastly expand their market, as there are more potential customers that already own an existing library of VSTs than there are potential customers willing to work exclusively in Reason.

you really cant knock Reason... you are correct, when you open Reason your thought process does change... i.e. for the good... but then you realize that there is a ton of work involved to do a few basic functions... i think that takes away from the music making process for me... i just want to jam but i do understand others musical approaches could be different... i.e. Reason...Orbit-50 wrote:To me, that's what makes Reason pretty cool. I definitely won't disagree with that statement. It hits you like a ton of bricks after the eighth hour!neverenoughfunk wrote:..but then you realize that there is a ton of work involved to do a few basic functions...
I still don't mind it though, it's only the "dead fish cursor" thing that I can't get past.

should simply add manual overwrite (shift+space) to the stop transport button > option/keyboard control edit mode, double click on the stop button / shift+spaceOrbit-50 wrote:This is the only thing about Reason that really pisses me off!
