I love the Phonec sound, and I have been on the fence about getting it since I really don't need yet another full blown synth. Well this solves my dilemma. I really look forward to using this in Reason 9.5 as I have really wanted this type of effect there. Awesome!

I paid $10 in February this year.Vertion wrote:What is the standing upgrade price from Phonec 1.0 to 2.0 to date?

Hi, I just set up a special upgrade from Phonec 1>2 + EchoMelt discount. Check your PM.Vertion wrote:I own Phonec 1.0 (and many other PM products). Oh well

When Phonec 2 got launched the GUI was rather small. But that got fixed with an update giving a much larger GUI, which is easier to work with.
I hope EchoMelt also comes with a big GUI, like the latest version of Phonec 2 ?
I thought $39 is the intro price for a limited time, but that is the price that is listed in the KVR database?

Basically it's a drift / detune effect.aMUSEd wrote:What is this 'melt' effect?

It's more than just drift and detune. Been twatting around with a load of fuzz guitar going into it and it's really fun to use. Barely scratched the surface of this.

Yes the intro price is $39 until June 6. I went ahead and updated the pricing to reflect this in the database listing. Thanks for pointing this out.Numanoid wrote:When Phonec 2 got launched the GUI was rather small. But that got fixed with an update giving a much larger GUI, which is easier to work with.

Wow, that looks like a very useful, positively unconventional FX plugin
Being a multi-FX processor, is there latency?
OK, downloaded and playing with the demo...
Very musical and effective
I like the demo dropouts, more like fadeouts
Actually, some controls also seem to have a fading rather than immediate effect.
Seems very solid, I have done wild things, but no crash so far.
I think it might make sense to somehow show which section presets one has currently loaded, for instance with a little check next to the preset in the Load menu.
Mousewheel support would be nice, too.

A quick blurb from the website:aMUSEd wrote:What is this 'melt' effect?
"The Melt effect produces a drifting, warbling instability that will give your sound instant character. Melt makes it easy to acheive that "VHS" sound, giving your audio the ghostly quality of forgotten formats and machineries of the past. It's meant to be used for subtle effect, but can be pushed to extremes for experimentation. If you're familiar with Phonec, you probably know all about it. EchoMelt's version however has several new features and big improvements."
EchoMelt's version of Melt uses two speeds (wow & flutter) for a more varied sound. To make the effect even more convincing is the added 'Snag' section which emulates tape getting caught in the internal mechanisms of a VCR or Cassette deck while playing, when the tape is caught and released it will cause a very noticeable jump in the pitch. The difference between Snag and Melt is the nature of the modulation. While Melt is a continuous random drifting, Snag produces
occasional jumps in pitch and or amplitude.

I know this may sound a little like looking the gift horse in the mouth, but...
...if it could be said that EchoMelt employs the melt as the tape mode built into Phonec... (ie- approach from an outboard fx perspective...)
Might there be any possibility of future circuit mode employment in EchoMelt? (ie- audio treated as an unstable oscillator...something more akin to circuit bent fx vs physically induced effects from old VHS decks, etc)
just positing the question, really...
the result of a circuit mode on EchoMelt may not be nearly as exciting as the present tape mode melt effect obviously is...
In fact... just doing some comparative playing on Phonec, while I noodle out this idea: the *strength* of the circuit mode is randomization of the oscillator tuning while Phonec is in poly mode...and THAT is something that would not be at play when audio signal itself is the "oscillator" --it would be handled as a monophonic source and would not retrigger a differently tuned/warped oscillator ...unless some sort of transient reading/triggering might be written to do that very thing? I dunno... any of this make sense to anyone?
In any case- Thank YOU, Jack for creating this goodie!
A sure sign of a device's success in my book is if it inspires me and if I manage to somehow lose an hour or two after pulling it into a set... Both of those boxes are surely ticked for EchoMelt!

Why gift horse?
Why is the EQ section not designed like the other three sections above?
Saturation could be a fifth section, with on/off button. Of course there would be no need for saving and loading presets in this case.
