They work better (for me) if you put them in paulstretch at about X10.SODDI wrote:Jeez, I don't know. I like Bach for that kind of situation - it's complex, it's organically logical, it's not surprising or rousing. Its rationality soothes my brain while engaging it, it may not soothe yours.
I like the cantatas, with the chorals and recetitives.

Just a thought, maybe you want try a "white noise" app, where you can listen to rain/storms/ocean surf, crickets, blitzkrieg-style bombing runs, automatic weapons fire, domestic disputes, etc.
Zzzzzz.

Gaslighting...is a form of mental abuse in which information is twisted or spun, selectively omitted to favor the abuser, or false information is presented with the intent of making victims doubt their own memory, perception, and sanity.

I don't want to hijack aMUSED's thread, but, I'd love to have more discussion on this and what people have found useful, specifically with respect to attributes of music, that works for them?
For me, rain just makes me want to turn it off.

Better than making you have to take a leak.ghettosynth wrote:For me, rain just makes me want to turn it off.EdSevered wrote:Just a thought, maybe you want try a "white noise" app, where you can listen to rain/storms/ocean surf, crickets, blitzkrieg-style bombing runs, automatic weapons fire, etc.Zzzzzz.

No doubt. Along those lines, well sort of, but not exactly, is Plasticman's Consumed. I'm not sure that I'd listen to either to go to sleep to, but they are in that place that they slow my breathing and thoughts.JerGoertz wrote:IMO the album "Substrata" by Biosphere is some of the most beautiful, relaxing (without being boring) ambient music I've heard. It really calms me down when I need to focus on something, maybe it'll help with your insomnia.aMUSEd wrote:Really suffering from insomnia since stopping mirtazipine. Some nights I'm just getting a couple of hours then waking up with my mind active and finding it impossible to get back to sleep even though I'm physically knackered.
been trying various relaxation/mindfulness apps but I can't stand them, I just can't listen to some dick droning on about letting go of my tension bla bla bla, but the typical sort of new agey relaxation music I just find unlistenable as well. What would you recommend? I want something that will relax me but without making me just want to turn it off.

I find the ambient section of Bandcamp is great for this kind of stuff, especially in the field recordings sub-section; plenty of music that incorporates found sounds and not just eg. rain in isolation. Lots of 'ambient' mixes on youtube too that aren't what I'd call true ambient (more like classic 'synthesiser' music) but maybe energetic enough to engage you.

Oh well looks like I can buy it legally online from an offshore site at least but it will take a week or 2 to get to meghettosynth wrote:What!?! Melatonin, a "drug", LOL!
