I am so devo.
I've been a fan since I was a kid.. I think Freedom Of Choice is my favorite album of theirs... it was record #3 for me. First purchase was actually two for one... The Best of Dr. Demento (novelty comedy songs) and Def Leppard, High & Dry.
Yes, I bought the wrong Def Leppard album...
6th grade, all the cool kids were listening to AC/DC and Def Leppard, Pyromania... and I buy the wrong record.

But alas, I atoned for my sins by buying Freedom Of Choice because I liked Whip It, and the album cover made me laugh. Flower pots, on their heads.

I have an eleven year old and while looking at the TV screen during one of his Nickelodeon shows, I found that Brothers Mothersbaugh are garnering a new audience.
They play the lead in music for Rugrats, Rocket Power, and who knows what else. I wonder if my son would like DEVO?

My fave Devo tune has gotta be Come Back Jonee. Awesome little rock n' roll anthem. And it sounds like Eno got the drummer to play the guitar strings with chop sticks while the guitarist changed the chords.
And the time signature to the majority of Jocko Homo, is that 6/8 time?

Welcome to the punk ethic.scuzzphut wrote:There is no complexity in the synth sounds.
They haven't spent a whole day session getting the guitar sound right.
The vocals aren't processed through a pitch corrector
It's all about the ideas and those ideas are crackers, every one.
DEVO rock! Even their last album, SmoothNoodleMaps, is really good. Its almost impossible to pick high points and the only low point was Shout which, ironically, spawned their biggest hit in Australia. I saw them 3 nights in a row in '82 and they were incredible. I picked up a yellow meltdown suit which I once wore to a crowded yuppie bar on a Friday. I had no problem getting to the bar that night. I loaned it to some fool for a fancy-dress and it got trashed. I always wanted a new traditionist pomp but never got around to ordering one.
