In my opinion you need only one tool to have everything sound like BOC. A good tape emulator like for example U-He Satin with all sliders on "legacy"

Lol, that's funny because I used those 2 plugins in the process of making some of these sounds.
I tried to use a variety of plugins and methods (including using a 90's Radioshack VOX cassette recorder). So there are some analog sounds, and some digital sounds --of course ultimately it's all digital, but you know what I mean. In some cases I actually took some of the digital sounds and transferred them to cassette, and then transferred them from the cassette back to the computer through a vacuum tube amp. Some of it was time consuming stuff, but well worth it :)

Thanks for the info! Never knew that. What's the rationale? Does the static sound like a frying pan?

How long does the introductory offer last btw?

Post

We usually let the intro offers run to the end of the month they start in, maybe the week after? So until (say) 7th Dec.

Before working on this project, though I'd owned some BOC inspired libraries, I never actually listened to the band.
Thanks, now I feel a little less of a musical hermit!

Re criticism that their music is 'too simple', I actually view that as a prize to be attained. Creating space in music is SO difficult because the temptation is to fill all the gaps to maintain interest; it's very hard to make simple music that's captivating. I read an amazing book last year called 'This is your brain on music' and it had an insightful chart that plotted complexity on one axis, and enjoyment on the other; as complexity rises, enjoyment rises too, until a certain point at which point it becomes too complex. Made a nice bell curve and has stuck with me since! You'll always find critics. I just launched my first ambient / chillout album and whenever I post a link on reddit it's immediately downvoted by the 'this isn't real ambient' brigade. At least, that's my assumption as it seems to be selling OK. www.sunsofain.bandcamp.com if you fancy a listen!

As for Stranger Things vibes... if I'm honest, after season one I started hearing ST vibes in everything  likewise not sure if I was just noticing it more, or if it caused a massive lurch towards 80s themes in games / TV music.
