Me or them? :scared:

The listening experience I refer to happened about 23 years ago, and I haven't done drugs for over 10 years. I'm sure it was more about listening with cans, rather than the being stoned. Either way, it's f**ked

I don't mean that there was a problem with the cans, just that it was getting to listen at such close-quarters. Being stoned likely just made it stand out.

The issue is with the bassline :tu:

I'm sure I can hear a few wrong notes in this...

On a serious note, it's my favourite cover version of all time. It radiates pure joy like no other record. Apparently all competent musicians who restricted themselves to instruments they couldn't play. The guitar lick at 1.27 cracks me up every time.

Holy shit, that sounds bad :D

And it repeats, so it is deliberate, but yes, not notes one would expect :)
Ha, this is the song I was gonna mention. That riff is brilliant - I think they did it in Eb so Hooky could hit the low open E and have it sound so rightly wrong. Also you can hear open bass strings ringing at the beginning of the song.

More musical then anything a computer has ever done.

There surely are many "mistakes" in famous recordings. Today we tend to be so perfect using computers and maybe we forget other things which count a lot in a song.

then you'll love my playing :hihi:
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

There is a difference between an algorithm and musical endeavor, and perfection is fake and boring. Anyone trashing someone for playing an instrument, however poorly, should go practice the tune and play it better themselves.

well then I'll be the first to post my own recording with what some will say are wrong notes and mistakes. The truth is on the first page is the original with a drum part I decided to remove and now I plan on redoing the guitar parts because frankly as imperfect as this is playing this song makes me feel good. :)

Nobody is being trashed, here

This thread, for whatever reason, reminds me of a story I read on another forum (EquipmentTrollopz or something like that) about a sound guy who got back at a hot-shot lead guitarist who was a bit of a prick toward him. I guess he slapped a pitch shifter on the guitarist's in-ear monitoring, and when it came time for the hot-shot to take an epic solo, the engineer pitch-shifted the guy's in-ear signal by a semitone. So his big, epic solo quickly fizzled as his confidence was shaken; I guess it took him a few seconds to find the right key because his ears and his fingers weren't matching up at all.

It seems really vindictive and unprofessional, and I don't remember the context at all, but still funny in a schadenfreude kind of way.

It's always annoyed me that the flute solo on 'california dreaming' is sharp, like nearly half a semitone maybe? the minor 3rd is perilously close to being a major 3rd. It's probably not that much, but it bothers my ears no end.
