Ok, but that rather has to do with attitude, than with the actual "being online". If you have a online smartphone on the table, sitting in front of your offline DAW, you have the same situation again.funky lime wrote:I once lived in a house for 2 years that had no internet or TV. I think the point is that if you have a stable system that is offline, and a collection of software that you're happy to make do with, then you won't actually need updates.chk071 wrote:It's simply a huge PITA to have to carry updates, and new installers to a DAW which is offline on principle.

And my point was that you can be incredibly productive without having to constantly download updates and new installers. Version 3 doesn't just stop working entirely, just because version 4 was released. And what if version 4 breaks all my old projects from version 2? All of a sudden, my music time is spent chasing technical headaches that could have been avoided by just accepting that what I had was already good enough.chk071 wrote:Ok, but that rather has to do with attitude, than with the actual "being online". Maybe the DAW is offline because the user has already decided that he or she doesn't want to be bothered by the constant stream of updates and new installers. Like that old cliche goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

If vurt is right and Service Center still works then where is the issue?
Anything that required Native Access to activate never had an offline option (unless I'm mistaken).
Edit:
Just found this in a post on the NI forums:
"If you have earlier products (released before September 1, 2016) such as Komplete 10 Ultimate, Komplete Kontrol and Maschine you will be still able to use Service Center."

Well it's rather unclear, as far as I know the latest {edit: Kontakt } version available for offline download is KONTAKT 5.6.6. So it should state "Versions of Products released before September 1, 2016.."sprnva wrote:Just found this in a post on the NI forums:

By saying products they imply I still would be able to download offline updates of my products I have bought before this date. This appear not to be the case...
{edit: inserted "Kontakt" that was missing }

There is a guy at the Samples board here who ran into a wall reinstalling Kontakt 3, wouldn't activate and the story has a happy ending, NI provided him with an activation code.

I held out against NI for the longest time. But even I, VST slut that I am, had to succumb.
Great plugs. But what a company. Sometimes they just don't write you back - they just ignore you - shitlords - but not in a good way.
I got Kore too. Had to have it, see what the fuss was about. So many bitter and twisted individuals can not be wrong. And they weren't. Kore was a work of genius. To scupper it pointed at something far more sinister than just corporate take-over. NI are evil!
Got Komplete. Got it all. Even some hardware (Maschine) - love it - but won't be buying any more.
I didn't want to get on the ship, then I jumped on the ship, now I'm jumping off the ship.
But that's just me. I'm an idiot.
Native Instruments will not stop. Not until they own your first-born. Not until they have destroyed music itself. They are a cancer not just on music, not just on music tech, but on society as a whole.
There is a balloon. And you are tethered to it. The longer you don't jump off the harder the fall will be.
Having said that, they do make some great plugins. Now, if only I could copy a pattern in Maschine...
NI will still be alive when music is dead and the last musician has blowed his last trumpet call. And they will still be charging you...
I see FXpansion get such a hard time around here. A small company really. Then NI get such a pass after obviously just being in it for the money. Like iZotope.
Love Battery 3 and Fm7 though.

It's particularly lame for those who don't even have internet access at home. Perhaps not many folks in Germany are in that boat but a lot of people in other parts are, or getting by with substandard service at best. For years i had to go into town and sit in a teahouse to use the internet. It was a real pita when i would get home and realize i forgot to authorize, update, etc. And at the time i had two desktops that had never been on-line.

The whole rush to get everything online and/or in the cloud, and the complete and utter dumbing down of interfaces - this is disturbing.
It plays to the idea that we have no brains.
To make copy protection so tied in to your own computer is also disturbing.

I have no idea how one would download something offline, but there's the picture taken today of the legacy downloads page and the last old one I downloaded, a 2011 product which was discontinued, I forget when. Long time ago though. It's all still there and I trust will be for the duration.
Now, installing Kore 2 on this OS [OSX, 10.12.6] requires some knowledge, and activating it yet another hurdle. I have done, but it's not on here currently.
I had to go to the Federal Building to authorize VE Pro the other night because I forgot to while in the library or was it Starbucks. I've had to download many gigabytes of samples at Google Starbucks. That's life in the fast lane, you know.

You bloody well know what I was meaning with "offline download" unless you have no concept of context. It's late, I'm tired and to add to that I do suffer from Dyslexia. So have some compassion and give me a break why don't you.jancivil wrote:I have no idea how one would download something offline, but there's the picture taken today of the legacy downloads page and the last old one I downloaded, a 2011 product which was discontinued, I forget when. With my previous comment:
"By saying products they imply I still would be able to download offline updates of my products I have bought before this date"
I was refering to that I bought Kontakt 5 which is the product name and they are not saying any further/future updates of previously released products will not be available for offline downloads. But in fact they are.
Kontakt 5.70+ or whatever is not another product.
They should be clear and say "Previously released Product Versions" will still be availabe for offline/authorization/download. All future updates of all/any products is from now done with NA without any offline authorization option. (if that now is the case, which as far as I know it is)
They by default made all my 3rd party Kontakt Libraries/instruments hostage, by which I mean that I can no longer use any further updates of those products either due to all updates are locked to newer versions. So yeah I'm not too happy with them.
It's just poor way to treat customers, specially old customers, I did support them for 16 year +
