You may like this in-progress piece, too. It's a bit overcompressed at the moment, and Markleford has not finished with the horns yet.

how can i not recognise plugsound - i used it to death in my pieces

the second song i heard is even better ! wow man

and the first question to mind is what is that bassline

Everyone's comments have been both helpful and encouraging. Thanks again for bothering to download my songs.

I fixed the snare panning thing. I must have snagged the pan knob during one of those moments when the CPU was hogging screen redraw.

Also upped the fuzzy bass melody thing again and pushed the overall mix level of everything just slightly.

This new version has a different filename.

I suppose this will stand as a definitive version until my recruits add the verse melodies, etc. Stay tuned for that. I'm hoping to have an album of this kind of material as outlined in another thread.

Did you mean the bass line in the second song reminds you of something familiar or did you want to know the sound source? If the latter, it's a sampletank bass sound from the bass collection disc, tweaked just a little, of course. The line itself was inspired by dub reggae in a way and I wrote much of it on a real instrument but decided to program it (it's still a bit stiff but I'm working on these things in stages), and I did think about how Sting did some nice work in "Spirits in the Material World"

overall , this is a bit 'vanilla' for my tastes; i far prefer your more esoteric work ...

that being said , you have absolutly blown me away with your production techniques on this one ...
this has so many nice touches i wouldn't know where to start in describing my favorites ...

this is first class work ...

Yeah, I end up with a deeper satisfaction with my other stuff, too! But I truly believe that working in a pop format helps me improve as an artist. These little pieces challenge me to be succinct in a way that I have yet to accomplish with the darker free-form works. Lately I have come to realize just how important a drum fill can be if one practices restraint leading up to it.

Thank you so much. It's nice to hear this as I did work quite hard on it (as simple as it is), and I had to fight both the software and the CPU along the way.

i've had another listen now since improvements.....just a great sound, and specifically, i'm digging your kick. i can never get mine to have such presence without being overbearing. that fuzzy thing, also is something to envy

Thanks! That kick can be yours today. It is 100% pure Drumatic 2 from e-phonic.com. I just fiddled with the pitch, decay, and whatnot until it was fatter than pork roast. Also, to mix similes, it's dry as a desert, which makes a huge difference, imo. The long open hat is also Drumatic 2.

I kept the snare acoustic as it suited the piece, but I do love 808 snares from time to time.

The fuzzy thing is z3ta+. We've got Renee at rgcaudio.com to thank for that.
