Dune vs Dune 2

I have Dune2 and I also used Dune 1.x CM for a while when I was running a 32 bit host. For what I remember, the sound character is actually a bit different. I won't try to explain it by words because I see Teksonic is in the thread, but I think they sounded different. For example, the Alpha Glider patch, is it possible to recreate it at 100% in Dune2?

Loved the Dune CM sound from the get go.
Bought Dune 2 and thought in some ways D CM sounded better.
But having got used to it, I love Dune 2.
It makes such a good alternative to the likes of Spire or Avenger - much warmer feeling.

There seems to be a limited amount of Dune2 soundbanks available commercially. In comparison to sylenth or serum. The majority of what I find are ambient and pad stuff of which I'm not interested in. Any good resources on Dune2 patches? I know how to create sounds but I like the inspiration of using sounds already made so I can focus on music.

Imo this is where Dune2 actually shines. For the stuff typically found in Serum and Sylenth soundbanks Serum and Sylenth are better choices.DrReacto wrote:The majority of what I find are ambient and pad stuff .
Having thus said, if you are into trance Aiyn Zahev's patches are definitely worth checking out

Have you heard these from Freshly Squeezed Samples? There are some great sounds in there. Also, the Synapse Audio forum has a sticky with several places to find Dune 2 patches.DrReacto wrote:There seems to be a limited amount of Dune2 soundbanks available commercially. Thanks Teksonik! I must have the older version before they updated it. I just did a Google search and found this: http://forum.cakewalk.com/64-bit-update ... 05029.aspxTeksonik wrote:I'm looking at the install folder from CM258 and Synapse DuneCM does have a 64 bit version.Examigan wrote:Here is the agreement I see when I reinstalled Dune CM a few minutes ago (note it's 32-bit only)![]()
From the "how to install" text file:
"To install the 32-bit version of this plug-in, please run the .exe installer file.
To install the 64-bit version of this plug-in, please copy the .dll file to your shared VST folder".

There used to a site that Rob Lee made, but I can't find it. It had a whole bunch of Dune CM presets he released for free.
I already have those presets, but I was trying to find the website for others here.
I'm not sure if it still exists (?)

Good replies, I'll check these out. Not really looking trance or anything specific, just not pads and ambiance. Leads, poly sounds, bass, clever modulation. Thanks again for the replies. Checking out some demos.

For those who are still on DUNE 1, there's still the possibility of our Duniverse soundset. Classic patches (with somewhat character).
Duniverse : Back to the roots
Duniverse : Some keys
Duniverse : Pads & Misc
Note : these presets are NOT compatible with Dune 2

Dr Reacto
The free Cuebrick presets are my favourite.
There aren't loads of them, but they make great start points for something edgier leadwise than most dune presets.
I keep coming back to them.
