Where to get all those oldskool samples ???

Those pros went to that old skool called record store, they just used their own resources and never had the idea of mimiking second hand. Its first hand sampling, no need to share anything...

I've done sound design work for a number of professional TV and film composers, I never once met anyone in that industry who went to a music store to buy records they planned to sample. These pros always had assistants (like me) who would create custom sample libraries for them. (They might share the development costs of these sample collections among several of their professional composer colleagues.)

If you are talking about underground rappers and Hip-Hop artists, I don't consider them "pros." (Not trying to be a jerk.)

Is there a secret hidden place somewhere where the "pros" share all those oldskool samples?
Is there a huge torrent around?

Its called "crate digging" ... find your own samples. Buy some records.

mainly through filters, which is what gives a lot of those early records their sound.
in some cases it might be painstaking editing, slicing and rerecording.

but no, no secret unknown technology or techniques.

I think most of the sampling I do from records is from spotting something while listening to music. Thats where all those "old school" breaks came from in the first place. DJs playing, then later sampling. loops, grooves, breaks, vocals... and slowing them down or speeding them up. Get a music collection and get creative.
