It’s actually a very clear question. Softube Tape was their best selling plugin of all time. Are they hoping for a repeat of that success by using a nearly identical GUI design. Softube typically have unique designs for all their plugins, with the exception of plugins which are inspired by the same hardware.

At first I was really impressed, but after playing around a bit with it, now I'm not so sure anymore. Maybe it works for different material better than others, because I'm not getting consistent "wow, this thing rocks!" effect that I initially got.

Don t be ashamed , modular + every module is just IOM the best "reproduction" synth (fx too) ATM. I ise to buy each every module released without wait and see what people think about it.(modular , avenger , Zebra , saxlabs 2 and ff One are my favorite) ...but i regret mu purchase for thorn and trantra

We're definitely at saturation point for saturators
But in saying that, Softube's Tape is stellar at the right dosage so this probably is too.

Very impressed after a few play arounds with the demo. I like how it compresses with the dynamic knob counterclock wise. Is it enhanching transients turning the other way? if so, is the transient shaper before saturation? Whatever the case it sounds very analog to me.
Saturation is one of the toughest things to make right imho, big point why those classic clones sell so well (warm audio, Klark teknik etc). Hell i just got myself the old classic 1 gen mackie vlz pro desk to send sounds in series through multiple channels with different eq and gain (soft clipping) settings. Can do wonderful feedback noises and tuned waveforms as well(mixer as a synth lol). Nothing like it ITB.
So i welcome high quality saturation effects and this seems to be mark 1, more to come?

Has anyone compared this with the Elysia phil's cascade ? My harmonics trial ran out

Yes. They are quite different. Softube Harm is more overt and the dynamics control is not something Cascade has. I think Softube is good for really saturating a source *and* imparting some saturated dynamics (mostly transients). Cascade is another useful nice sounding take on more subtle saturation for sweetening and/or beefing up a source but sutbly. Cascade has a nicer sound than Softube but that because Softube has a wider range of affectation.SiliconDeath wrote: Thu Nov 22, 2018 4:53 pm Has anyone compared this with the Elysia phil's cascade ? I am going to buy Cascade with my various PA discounts for $50. But Softube at no lower than $90 right now, I am going to wait for a better deal in the future. Just weighing the two companies approaches to sales etc here.

I still havent jumped in with this one. Loved the demo. Its mainly good on drums and sounds with heavy transients. I too love the way you can turn the transient knob counter clockwise and actually squash the transients. Love that technique on electronic hi-hat.
However, i have a ton..even ones i got recently (phils cascade, IKmultimedia saturation - which is also amazing IMO, and spectre - most interesting sat plug out there if you ask me)
I probably will get it. But the thing is, i wanted modular too, was really impressed with that emulation....but then voltage modular came out and i have falen in love with its workflow. So i have to make some decisions!!!
There is so much good stuff coming out at the moment. Its hard to keep up!!
