What 3ee posted clearly states that users can choose to use a serial only OR use it with an iLok account. I guess I'm not getting what's so hard to understand about that Soundtoys quote, it seems cut and dry to me.

The real concern has to do with if these serials are limited and if you have the plug-ins installed autorized, if your pc die, stolen or whatever that might happen, you simply can't use your serial/keys anymore?

Honestly if it is like that there is not real good news, it would be like Ilok/Pace exactly, maybe with other name but same or similar process, hope is not that...

My HD died under the previous ST system. I wrote them and they sorted it out for me. I then asked if they do the sane as Waves, just one reset per year if your HD fails and they replied no way, they would honour my licenses even with another HD failure.

I like ST and trust them, as much as I trust any company anyway.

So tonight, I decided I would trial Soundtoys again.

last time I installed the demo was in 2014 so I already had an account with them. I also have been on the look out for a good delay plugin and seeing how Echo boy is up there with the best of them I figured i'd give it a test again.

First thing I did was install a trial version and upon doing so I noticed it installed the iLok manager with it, which I feels get more of a bad rap than it truly deserves. Everything was pretty straight forward, and I was up and running in under 20 minutes.

After spending about 30 minutes playing with Echoboy and Primaltap I was so impressed with the low-cpu and sound quality that I ended up buying it direct from Soundtoys website.

I bought directly from them as an upgrade for Little plate which I apparently had for a while and forgot about. So my Black friday total came out to $209 which is great!

Again no issues, it was straight forward and the 2GB+ installer downloaded quickly.

So far I've found 0 issues with the setup so far and iLok manager doesn't seem so bad. If my HD dies, it's good to know that Soundtoys will help me out.

I'm still not sure why I never got the option to use a activation key instead of ilok, but I'm guessing it's because I have an ilok account associated with my soundtoys account.

:dog: :idiot:

And you claim this how exactly? What is stopping you to buy new computer and log in to your soundtoys and install everything again?

Soundtoys being in a business for decades now - you think they wouldn't think in advance for such situations? Is that a rocket science to you? Really?

I mean do i see this correctly.

People bitchin over five years that company should remove iLok copy protection and now when they did that and MADE IT OPTIONAL - people still complain?!??

Hahahaha

No one is complaining, we are talking about independence from companies, yes they could help, it can be a little bit of improvement, but "your product" is not fully independent from the company because you have to ask for help or go to them instead to save your own key file/liscence in a external hardrive or external flash drive of your choice in case of some accident and incidents, as I said before, many companies die and everything all of a sudden can go or stop working with it. I'm not against Soundtoys is just how things happen.

Some people might not think about that, but is a very serious issue, with all due respect kmonkey...

Hi,

Just bought the Echoboy Jr plugin today, new to Soundtoys, new to Ilok, I didn't make it work unfortunately. I received a license key but didn't find where to use it. It requires to install a pace/ilok software which failed on my computer (Windows 7, offline, Cockos Reaper).

Any ideas maybe? (I should probably create a topic sorry for posting here)

Apart from this, it seems that you still need an Ilok to activate the plugin if your computer is offline, so basically, I think I won't be able to use it)

Thanks

Apart from using an ilok dongle, I dont' think you can authorise it if you never go online. I think you can go online to authorize it once and be fine after that however.

So is this like Waves where if you don't transfer it, you lose it? Like, reformatting your hard drive?

But like i said days ago. Contact soundtoys with the questions.

People shouldn't believe you because you're incorrect. I made a purchase from Soundtoys 2 days ago, I chose the activation code method of registration, and I was able to bypass iLok completely. What may confuse some people is that, when installing, the exe asks if you want to link it to your iLok account. If you don't want to link it, just deselect and you're done. No iLok account necessary. 8)

I can assure you Pace/ilok software is installed on your computer.
You just have no control of the activations now.

If you are on a PC, next time go to your Programs Remove in CP and see if there is a "PACE License Support" entry.

Lol yes, iLok is on my computer - because it's been on my computer for years. But when you go to install a newly purchased Soundtoys product, it asks if you want to install iLok License Manager. One can easily deselect the "yes" box. Done.

I can assure you that if you deselect that install iLok Manager box, it will not install it on your computer. This isn't up for debate - and I have no interest in continuing to do so. The fact is that you don't have to use iLok if you so choose. If you'd rather continue believing the opposite, so be it. :D

Did you see my screenshot above? Soundtoys have changed their faq to explicit tell you that they do, where I underlined.

The protection is still "iLok".

The only difference is that previously, you had to have the license deposited to your iLok *account*, and then you used the iLok license manager *application* to activate the license, via the iLok *cloud services* (ie over the internet to iLok servers), to either your hard disk or your physical iLok *dongle*.

You can still do that, but now there is an additional method that simplifies the above.

Now, you no longer need an iLok *account* (to deposit the license), nor do you need the iLok license manager *application* to activate the license. The software itself asks for an email and activation code, and still (I believe, but haven't personally verified) accesses the iLok *cloud services* to activate the license (I'm not sure offhand whether it still lets you choose to activate to disk or iLok dongle as I already had an iLok account and used that method).

So: the protection is still iLok. You *don't* need to sign up for an iLok *account*, and you *don't* need to install or run the iLok license manager *application* to activate your license. Softube basically activates it via iLok over the internet directly, to save the user some faff.
