problem 1.
while making a new partition for Linux using partition magic, i cud not get to make a swap partition. PM was giving some error. So i thought id let linux take care of this.
During linux installation, it asked ,me to continue inspite of there being no swap partition, i said yes, all works fine though.
What is a swap partition ? How important is it ? Any way to make it now ??
Problem 2.
Again during the last leg of the installaiton i get a message saying that since this is the free download version, some hardware (such as ATI and NVidia) might not work.
I have a nvidia Gforce2 dual head display card.
the last installation saw my card not working. This time i set the display resolution to 800*600 (during install) and tested it. It workd.
Now i want to change it to at 1200*xxxx . I get a setting icon in the taskbar, but over here the higest suppoted resolution is 800*600. I would also like to get my dual display working.
I went to the nvidia website and downloaded some linux drivers. But i cant seem to know how to install them... i have the file ¨NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6106-pkg1.run¨ lying in the hoime directory. doble cliking it does nothing.
Problem 3 :
Where do i get veiw my other drives from ??? the closest i see to something like my camputer is Home.. which is actually more like my documents. I think i have to mount it on the desktop or something.. like a mac ??? Id like to block access to my audio disks.. but other id like to access.

Hmmm, I'm not familiar with "run"-packages. Maybe there's something about installing those in the help-file? Otherwise open a terminal and type "man run". Most functions have a man(ual)-page.sidhu wrote:Problem 2.

Also, I noticed the NVIDIA-drivers are for kernel 2.4 distros. This might cause problems.
I wonder if compiling the drivers from scratch helps.
Any *nix-heads who can shed some light on this?

Alternatively, you could use a terminal-window. I used this to troubleshoot a drive on Mac OSX, and it worked really well.
Not shure what this is called on Linux yet, on OSX it's /volumes/<your drive here>. Then use "mnt /volumes/<your drive here>".
Hmmm. Maybe it was /dev/hd<your drive number>.
Now I'm not sure anymore, and I don't have a drive to test this with. Use the man-pages.

thanks a ton groek.. ill try and get as much info as i can and then post it here.. also any ideas on this... Ym isp requires me to feed a paasword (in a authentication exe that we download from there website) before we are given internet access... not what do i do with Linux ??? im bak to windows as of now...
