TOTAL wrote:to eon again: Ihave already discovered it is the trash distortion which takes the most of the sound. hey! gotta simply tweak it some more! asking is a good way to come to one's own ideas :-)
I am fully agree with you :)

distortion is peak-ful effect which makes lots of problems from my experience. Usually I dont like to use it but in trance which is my lovely kind of music I have to cause it makes hard leads and stuff :)

Be carefull and just keep going :)

very efficient, but you often later have to remove clicks (np) and it's easy to overdo with the fx.
I didn't xpect cubase to be sufficient that.
Try Ableton Live 4, it is best thing for making live stage improvization expecially for techno. :)

In that case, lose the distortion. It will clear up everything.
Well, maybe a hint of it on your kick.
Keep percussion nice and punchy.
Pads can work, listen to Mills' Our Man In Havana.
What I did when I made hard, percussive techno was this: keep everything around -6 dB, except the kick, that can go to ~ -1 dB.
Compression on whole track only: 0 ms attack, 0 ms release , low threshold, high ratio.
Experiment with settings.

Yeah, havent heard of any other pluging doing the same thing. waves not dead.

tetraplan: thx for the tips. gonna check em out.

eon: you think so? I'm not convinced about using live for techno, yet. MB because once I tried with some samples of the same set I am using now in cubase for ~minimal, the final product was the most surprising in the history of my music making!

A long almost classic-like improvisation on a synth backed up by those rhythm samples (unprocessed) resulted as "new classic" or I don't know what.

how about the vst's in Live 3.0.4? do they work fine?

Learn how to mix

Yeah, I have to third the surprise of your method of running everything through the same FX. I mean, I never (hardly ever) run all my channels through the same effects before the mastering stage. Generally speaking my percussions alone are divided to at least 3 chains with separate effects. Running the whole frekin track through 2 filters and a distortion seems like a very odd solution indeed.

Um.. try it!
You can probably get the same result with other products .. but with this one .. it is so easy. Set drive to almost max, attack to 20-40 and Slow .. release .. a small value. Then check the different colouring .. i prefer varm, snappy and clean. Make a drumloop and try it. With it i can make the sound that i always wanted .. but with other stuff it was to hard to do .. :) I LOVE IT!
