Am currently putting all of my money into deposits for a new flat, endless letting agent fees and removal costs, and after I move I'll have far less money to spend on vsts, effects and other kit than I have over the past couple of years. I think a process of consolidation and learning what I already have is a far better use of my time than buying more gear, I have over 50 or so virtual synths, samplers and drum machines and don't really require much else, apart from some replacement monitors.
I realised that much of my GAS was just buying things that were on sale and thinking they'd be a worthwhile investment but often they don't get a great deal of use, and I can get results faster with stuff I already own, so really not buying these things in the first place might have been a smarter "investment" in terms of time and money. Recently passed up the U-he NI deal, and the JRR 1/2 price Voltage Modular which a year ago I would've leapt on, but truth is, I can't say they add much I can't get elsewhere in my collection.
Years back, when I was in a time of tighter funds, I had less stuff and did more with it, but always felt like I was missing out not having the new "shiny" - nowadays it feels like a relief mostly.

Addiction-wise, buying stuff online was never a problem to me. I don't have the means (PayPal would probably consider me "Not Fit To Qualify"). I have to ask someone with PayPal to buy REAPER 6 for me when it arrives. I hate asking. Asking is like begging? At least 2 of my previous desktop computers and monitors I got via donation and begging.
Buying stuff online was always a problem to me. For example, I bought my Zoom16 audio recorder brand new and it took all the money in my coin jars to do it, plus a bit more paper money. I don't even use my Zoom16 now. I learned my lesson.
The lesson learned is "All I need is a DAW. And the internet to download Free VST plugins and many other freebie music-making software" to make music. That, and a satisfactory music-making method. Those, and time.
And perhaps a misquoted (by me) David Bowie song lyrics states it best:
"I ain't got no money and I ain't got no cash."
I got hair. I don't got the bald gene. Sucks though. I have to keep shaving it. Waste of electricity and of 15 minutes each time.
Oh well, that's enough typing for today. Scrabble time now. Okay, bye.

There’s nothing else in music hardware or software that I want. Really. I’m not kidding.
That might change in the future if something ultra-amazing is developed, but for now, I’m all set.

I badly want VSL Vienna Suite Pro, because of the Imager and the ways to synthesize back-to-front in a mix.
They had it on sale but I didn't have the money in time.
I still need extended techniques of a number of instruments. BFD Expansions, I bought a couple of those recently. You'd think I have sufficient drums, but no.

Mebbe..mebbe..
Still cogitating on purchasing the purple 6 string bass vi (why wouldn't you...
) ? Definitely do need a new bass of some type though, this f**king thing is made out of lead. If not the purple thing then some cheapy short scale thing which looks cool, and which weighs less than a small car.

"Fall in love all over again. Then dust the others off for a booty call"
That was brilliant.
I got up to almost 10 Basses once. Could have; bought More. There is not enough time in life to maintain and play 10 basses effectively. I moved out of the country so I had to choose one. That was 10 years ago. Since then I have become more comfortable and much more fluid as a result. I always hated choosing 2 for the gig or which to play to learn this or that. Now I just grab my wife and play.
For any inerested
Choices were.
Alembic destroyer 4
Rick 4003
Musicman stringray 4
Tacoma acoustic
Modulus 5
Carvin LB 76
Fender max Jazz
I wont derail the thread with a guessing game
I chose the Stingray 4
I bought it as a backup for the Alembic years ago.....the Alembic became the back up.

If you want something cheap, but pretty good, and also very light, I'd recommend a Höfner Ignition Beatle Bass. Short scale, but only 4 strings. I find I enjoy playing it more than I do my Sire Marcus Miller jazz bass. I'm thinking of putting flatwounds on it.donkey tugger wrote: Sat Mar 02, 2019 7:46 pm Mebbe..mebbe..

I'm not ready to stop buying at all. There is no way I won't lay my hands on a Minilogue XD when it comes out later this month. Still on the fence on the Akai Force. Gut feeling says wait.
I tried stopping buying gear a couple of years back, and the result was that I went on an insane shopping spree after holding back for a few months. The only trick I found out it to start selling off the stuff you really don't use or love.
