STARK - Amp Simulator

...shouldnt this be a WINTER reverb, eh?... especially given as it HAS come? ...and clearly from the north as well?

I tried the demo and though it is not all that I hoped it would be, it is still very cool. This is a very unique amp sim. You can get some interesting tones out of this that you really can't get with anything else I've used. It doesn't always sound good though so you have to be careful with the settings. I think it is particularly useful as a keyboard / general purpose amp. The room simulator is great if you don't push it too far. I agree with those saying it should have a spring reverb. I do think that is a weird omission. But if you already have a spring reverb plugin then you can just throw that in front of this and you're good.
I think the price is very fair (the full price even) for something so unique and potentially useful.
This can really be the kind of thing that fills in some gaps for some people I think.

Yeah. I still think it’s promising and hope it grows into something, particularly since it’s just version 1.0.

I too prefer thick clean tones. Grant Green and Kennedy Burrell are a couple of my holy grail guitar tones. The sound of slight tube breakup on those old Blue Note albums is amazing and I thought I heard a little of that with the demo tunes.

After putting some more time in, this is starting to grow on me. I’m starting to grow quite fond of the distortion+ pedal tones now that I’m figuring out some settings/combinations that I like. The reverb is still the weak spot for me. With good reverb and delay plugins, it can sound really good.

Anybody else using this?

I'm currently testing it. Sounds pretty good! Tough, I've noticed that many of Klevgrand's stuff has some kind of transient/phase smearing (idk the term exactly) effect which CAN have a "plastic" sound to it. That being said, they're great sound coloration devices! I actually really like Stark on (raw) drums like SD3 to give them a distressed sound.

I have to agree that the reverb doesn't sound very good, to me, at least..

tried the CM version. the cabinet sounds phasey in the high end, and the distortion sounds like, well, shit. i mean it's nice for cleaner sounds, but even that sounds weird and not at all amp-like. doesn't take pedals very well either, and its own distortion pedals sound like caca, especially if you turn up the highs either on the amp or on the pedals. i don't think it models an amp setup in the slightest. if you're into weird sounds - this is probably OK. if you expect an actual authentic amp emulation - look elsewhere.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

Are they using stereo impulses for the cabinet or what makes it sound phasey?

That sucks, most Klevgrand stuff is top notch.

Good to see a semi-positive comment about this plug. Maybe I'll check it out after all.

I also praised it on page one if this thread - while I agree with Burillo e. g. in regards to the Chandler GAV19T (we both love it) my opinion greatly differs from his here...

Stark = strong in Swedish and a (pre-)amplifier is actually called förstärkare, which basically means “to make something stronger”. So now you know and we can all move on :-)

Btw, I don’t think it’s meant to be the most authentic replica of a real amp, and hence it’s not targeted at seasoned guitar players looking for the ultimate it’s guitar sound. I could see myself using this a lot on various sources, guitars or not.

Cool, I see there is a CM version of this now.
Does anyone know what the limitations of the CM version are?

as far as i can see, only one FX pedal is allowed.

Thanks.
That's not bad seeing as how the fx are not that special.
