Reaper or mutools for usb and https://www.lifewire.com/best-online-ap ... ic-2438471 some of these for online.

I'd go for usb stick since it can have a daw and a nice selection of vst's and samples too, and it's not dependant of internet connection.

I am not sure, but Ardour might work as well...

The way bigger issue i see is with the plugins. The least plugins i have installed come with a simple DLL file, and, the least also come with copy protections, which would allow a portable installation. I'd really be totally f***ed with that.

energyXT would certainly work from a USB stick but quite frankly i dont see a single reason why i would use that if i can use REAPER instead.

(Not that eXT is a bad option, its actually great for such a lightweight app. But if REAPER is an option too, IMO the choice is clear.)

Have to take that back.

Since you said 'simple DLLs', REAPER is out because it only works with scanned DLLs.

energyXT on the other hand doesnt scan plugins, it just lists them.

(Actually it lists anything with a DLL extension thats in the folder you specify.)

Plus you can simply drag any VST DLL into it from Windows Explorer.

Since eXT is probably the best-featured of all hosts that can do that its probably the No.1 choice.

So far it's a non-starter anyway. Two days into my supposed holiday and I'm still looking at Excel :x

Get an iPad and rock away with it...
But how could a company force you to use the work pc on holydays? If its just excel, do it on whatever you want and force them...

I know you can run many Linux distribution like Ubuntu and Linux Mint from a usb key. I never tried it but I guess you could install something like Bitwig or any Linux compatible DAW on that usb drive...

Sorry Jolaff, corporate laptops won't boot from a usb stick. You can't get into the bios setup as well to change that.
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated. Image

But you can pull out the hard drive and hack away with another computer... The best way to get rid of that terrible work condition...; - )

BandLab requires Chrome. Portable Chrome should run OK on a thumb drive.
