What makes it so cool is that it's combined with the additive oscillator and the regular oscillator, so you can layer and mix all three at the same time. Rob demonstrated it with a couple of patches in that livestream and it sounds just sweet.Halonmusic wrote: Fri Oct 16, 2020 9:30 amMajken's Chimera could do that years ago.

A bit different than Blade i suppose (never tried it) but still. Its really old and win 32bit only

oh then its not the same as Chimera which use noise oscillators, tuned bandpass filters.crickey13 wrote: Fri Oct 16, 2020 10:10 amWhat makes it so cool is that it's combined with the additive oscillator and the regular oscillator, so you can layer and mix all three at the same time. Listen to some of the sound examples in the livestream, especially pads. I'm surprised how great the additive oscillator in conjunction with the tuned noise generator sounds. The combination sounds very organic and the tuned noise actually camouflages that distinctive additive 'stiffness' of the additive oscillator really well. I expected some kind of update with the introduction of a regular oscillator, but Rob really hit the nail on the head with the inclusion of tuned noise apart from the regular oscillator. Now I'm really stoked, that sounds really nice. Original Blade was already cool to begin with and it had a ton of cool distortion modes to choose from, but now it kind of makes even more sense. That's a really excellent update, can't wait to check it out.

I will give it a listen for shure. Noise is something i rarely use but it is always handy. Speaking of regular noise in VAs here ofc, it has clearly evolved into something more complex in hybrid synths.

Yeah, regular white noise is kind of like a subtle spice and sounds best when it's just lingering in the background: quiet enough to not become a distraction, but loud enough to influence the overall sound. The tuned noise seems a lot more useful synthesis-wise, you don't have to sacrifice one filter to get tuned noise, so you can focus on other things.

Tried it long time ago , but chimera's noise is going through bandpass filters and is not slaved/synced noiseHalonmusic wrote: Fri Oct 16, 2020 9:30 amMajken's Chimera could do that years ago.

I think the pitch is determined by self oscíllatinng key tracked filters .
Totally different approach

Chimera is a noise driven synth focusing on pads and haunting leads. White noise generators are connected through three pitch-controlled resonant bandpass filters.

Oops , I am in the wrong thread , thought this was the discovery 2 thread about synced noise

Aah then i was wrong. I always thought Chimeras oscillators/filters worked different than other synths (in a way it did) but i suppose many other synths did the same. Was revolurionary back in the day (wasnt it?) but not so much today. Still i love it for textures and ambiances.gentleclockdivider wrote: Fri Oct 16, 2020 12:39 pmTried it long time ago , but chimera's noise is going through bandpass filters and is not slaved/synced noiseHalonmusic wrote: Fri Oct 16, 2020 9:30 amMajken's Chimera could do that years ago.

well, i don't own any papen, so maybe this will be the one. seems to have multi sized gui available, but did not see anything about oversampling? is it possible with blade? i know mpowersynth (for example) is done to very high oversampling, and also has harmonic oscillators. does not have the vectoring tho.

Aye, that GUI looks proper old skool. I don't know what is going on there. It looks like it's ripped off the Wesley Snipes film trilogy. Also facebook: no.

I believe its internal oversampling is probably the same as the one Blue II i.e. 4x oversampling, but I'm just guessing, might as well ask Rob about it on one of his livestreams.Dasheesh wrote: Fri Oct 16, 2020 4:06 pm well, i don't own any papen, so maybe this will be the one. seems to have multi sized gui available, but did not see anything about oversampling? is it possible with blade? i know mpowersynth (for example) is done to very high oversampling, and also has harmonic oscillators. does not have the vectoring tho.
