I'm pretty sure they were spaced farther than a year.
I know that Sonar 2 had several 2.x iterations. We're only at v3.1, so you're telling me they can't implement a few new features and move to maybe a v3.2?
Like I said, better be a HUGE change. That being said though Cake has never let me down, although companies do change. I would just hate to see them implement a few features, call it a new version, and wait to cash in on people like me who always upgrade to new versions to have the latest and greatest, as well as support the developer.
I don't know, maybe in my aging brain my perception of time is changing, but damn it seems soon. I remember waiting for new versions before, hoping they would come. This is the first time it has ever seemed too soon to me.
Meh, it's still too early for me to be typing in public forums. Disregard my retardism if you want.

It was 'soon'. It was Oct 2003 when Sonar 3 came out. Probably trying to keep up with Cubase, I'm sure.

Does anyone else find this a little SOON for a new version.
Its faster than their previous 18-month upgrade cycle, but
I mean God damn, I just spent a good bit of money not too long ago on the upgrade from 2 to 3 (which for what it's worth was totally worth it!).
Well it cost me £150 for the 2XL-to-3P upgrade which included the Sonitus bundle and VSampler3, so I reckon that was pretty much a bargain for what you actually got. And the S2->S3 upgrade was only about £80
There had better be some f**king amazing features to nab another couple (or few?) hundy from me!
I doubt it'll be more than previous upgrades. So £150-£175 for the Producer bundle, and £75-£90 for the Studio version. 'Few hundred' I severely doubt.
As for features, the surround stuff has been on the cards for a while. And Project and Kinetic hopefully indicate where they're going with sequencing.
Im kind of curious how the AV stuff goes, and how it compares to the ProTools rigs I bought for my work.

i have recently come round to thinking I was on the wrong side of things hoping Cake would bring features like groove clips and bounce to track to P-5 when it's seems more likely they'll be move up some of the easier editing and sequencing features or P-5 to Sonar.
I'm not exactly sure how this could happen, given Sonar's different model for low level piano roll editing, but I guess I'll know in a day or two.
Otherwise the Rewire option is usable and there's a groundswell of support for P-5 to be implemented as a Dxi/vst in their next upgrade.

Im hoping that support for surround means they'll handle multiple-input effects!

Care to offer any specifics? I haven't found 3 "flakey" at all. If it were, rest assured I would not be using it. I go back to Atari's and the earliest sequencers...I hate to think I don't know a "flakey" program when I see it. However, nothing is perfect I realize, so that's why I was curious what was so messed up. Everyone's experiences can be different I realize.ttoz wrote:yeah the program itself is great to use but it is the most flakey of any i have ever used. catch 22Robert Randolph wrote:Deeo inside I have this strong desire for sonar to become something I like... it's so close to my style.. but soooo flakey in my experienceNot even usable in all the times Ive tried.

Well firstly, never could get low latencies. Saw/tracktion easily get 64/92 samples depending on the card I use. Sonar was always above 5ms.LoRez wrote:Care to offer any specifics? Many VST's seemed to crash it.
If you did large multitrack editing functions (which are a bear in sonar), it would often turn to a slug.. or crash.
Mixing? Everytime I tried to make a mixer thing in it, Id get all sorts of crashes... add something, slow slow... is it coming yet? nope.. crash.
high cpu loads bring it to a halt. over 50% and it starts getting really weird... sequencers I use now are completely solid all the way to 100%, can barely notice a difference. Im spoiled, I refuse to accept less now.
And well... it just crashed in the oddest times. I tried the demo for about 3 weeks. I love the look of the program, I like how it records. It'd be a perfect replacement for tracktion... if it was stable. So Im looking forward to trying v4. I strongly doubt it will though. All cakewalks products, even the rare ones that done crash.. still dont feel solid. It's hard to be confident using their software. Just something about the stock windows UI, and the overused window in window layout... so blatant.
