Sadly, there is no way to protect buyer beside paypal.

I guess having marketplaces that act as a middle man could remove such a problem, as the money would move to the marketplace and then from the marketplace to the seller because even though PayPal gives money back easily if a single account gets charged back too many times, they start paying attention and ignore false chargebacks. Otherwise, it really would be don't to trust and shunning of community members that attempt such tactics to scam.
Yeah, the whole thing has me in the weeds on the best way to handle it. I doubt I'd be paranoid if the potential buyer had a post history I could reference, since having access to that can give you enough of a picture on who you would be dealing with. Maybe I'll just refrain from trying to do business with members who have no post history.

Which reminds me... I need to post more on KVR.

Don't bother with Halion. Native Instruments Kantakt is the market leader. Also Steinberg products record your whole screen which is kind of creepy.

I just started my account since people were always selling Ableton Suite licenses and I wanted to grab one so I could sell my copy of standard and come out saving money over a straight upgrade. I just got the transfer yesterday and it all went smoothly. The person who sold it to me had been here for a while with good feedback so I went for it and figured paypal would have protections if things went sideways but it was all good and now I have Suite!

yes this is a very strange statement. halion is by the way, a good alternative to kontakt, especially when you do your own stuff. halion full that is, that i don't have, but i have kontakt 6....

still halion is worth considering, it has a lot, can do a lot, and some things much better than kontakt.
still keep my eye on it, for in the future. although kontakt 6 is quite good, for own stuff, but my eyes!!!

but creepy? screenrecording? well, windows takes a lot of info how you work, your android phone, or iPhone... all apps are trackers....

they don't need screenrecordings... if they want to gather information.... but that is an answer, to a very very strange statement, that can't have an answer....

I'm on macOS. Cubase asks for the right to record the whole screen. It may be just bad programming, but we don't know.

In the macOS Preferences app take a look at the Screen Recording section of the Privacy settings. You'll find an entry for Cubase.

When you find a thing creepy, you can ask for Steinberg staff reaction publicly on steinberg forums. If you want to clarify, i mean.
