This ^. Easily the comfiest phones I've ever had (other inc. AT, Sennheisers etc). Wear them for hours with my glasses on and forget they're there. Sound good too but that's subjective and best you try and hear them.

Only phones I really had trouble is was akg 141s, bit like the 240s but with small on the ear cups. The akg auto adjust thingy kept pulling them up off my ears, can't say I'm a fan of that mechanism (AKG copies like the samsons use it too), would rather manually adjust the phones and leave them be,

I found the sound really decent and neutral. For comparison, they sound like a little less bass-heavy/more neutral ATH-M50X. Quite balanced overall.

ATH-M40x are very comfortable for my big old head, and much better for mixing than the M50 series, which project way too much bass for this purpose - imho and all that.

I'd also recommend Audio Technica ATH-M50X. Great quality and one of the most popular choices

Although they're getting expensive...wonder if you could down a notch to the Audio-Technica ATH-M30X and still get a good deal (they're about half the price)

I had the M30x ... I have the M50x now. Very different sounding cans, neither particularly neutral, but the frequency response of the M50x is quite useful for me despite them being a bit boomy in the lows and sparkly on top. The M50x is a nicer design too and feels a little more robust. Also comes with a nice selection of cables whereas the M30x cable is fixed.

Slightly OT, but I recently started using Toneboosters Morphit correction + Waves Abbey Road Studio 3 with the 770s and that just took them to another level. Super useful when you can't blast your speakers at night time.

+1 for the DT770s although I use a headphone amp on my MBP to power them properly as mine are the 250 Ohm ones. Had mine since 2010 and still going like new.

Maybe take a look at sonarworks reference 4 headphone edition. It makes several headphones ‘flatter’ sounding so you can make mix decisions better!

Sennheiser HD600. Really comfy, great fit even over bigger heads, and really good sound. Not great for tracking (as open-back) and only under $100 if found in the outlet store or sale.

You really do get what you pay for though.

I would say to stick to M40X at the lowest. As the M30s have a noticeably tinnier sound. They are still great, but I wouldn't be able to recommend them as strongly.
