@owners, Is it better than Caustic or FLSMobile ?

Post

That gui looks beautiful, far nicer than full blown Cubase. They (Steinberg) should implement that Cubasis gui into Cubase/Nuendo.

Android phones and tablets are mobile devices, so I see no point in having this thread here while there's a dedicated subforum for apps and mobile devices.

Shouldn't we also take thermal capacity into account, instead of just spike CPU performance numbers? Phones and tablets rely on passive cooling, which is obviously suboptimal compared to active cooling in laptops. The ARM chips usually are more efficient so produce less heat, but I'd still be keen to see stress test performance numbers of prolonged high CPU load compared across laptops and tablets or phones....

Again, I also posted it in "Mobile Apps & Hardware" but thought it's so big of a deal that "general" DAW forum should also take notice, because it might be a 1st step to build a proper audio ecosystem - low-latency drivers, plugins, DAWs, etc. - on mobile outside of iOS

:according to Geekbench: says everything we need to know about your skills to interpret these numbers ;-)

You are forgetting that your laptop can run at 100% CPU capacity for a long time because of its decent cooling capacities. Your phone can run on high CPU load for a very short while only, until it has to throttle the CPU due to the risk of overheating. The geekbench numbers only tell half the story.
no, the cooling of most laptops isn't good enough for that actually... so they usually start throttling sooner or later too - and ARM CPUs don't heat up so quickly (which is why they consume less power in the first place- they simply are more power-efficient due to their RISC architecture) - and thus you'd have to run extensive tests in order to find out which of the two tend to have stronger calculation limits due to throttling caused by overheating.

Either way the point is that modern CPUs are so powerful that for me there is no need to run them anywhere near 100% even just momentarily and thus your point is moot.

If you tend to max out your CPU I would suggest to either look out for more effient plugins or to perhaps upgrade your CPU. You are also at risk of frying it in the long run, good cooling or not.
OT: My opinion of waves plugins is based on measuring what they do (which might shock you if you look at things like harmonic and intermodulation distortion!) and their (lack of decent) support if there's a problem
Fair enough - I thought it was that typical anti-Waves bullshit.

I rarely analyze plugins so I am certainly biased, but I am - generally speaking - a big fan of Waves...

there has also certainly always a tradeoff to be made between efficency, latency and reducing digital artifacts (which you potentially might not be able to actually hear, despite being well able to measure them - regarding this see also my point above about maxing out your CPU)

Making music on a phone is grim for me.

For tablets, well I've got a work iPad which is great. Android has got decent tablets?

I think Galaxy Tab S6 or MatePad Pro would be a decent choices nowadays, but I've not really followed this market since my Xperia Z4 died 3-4 years ago :)

Well, that's what I was on about earlier in this thread. You' might be better off with a decent phone that's able to give out a video signal over USB-C. Also you'd then need some sort of desktop-mode.

So far I did not manage to get both N-Track and Evolution Mobile rescaled using Sentio (Sentio says these apps do not support it), but there's some kind of hack for Sentio that might fix it. I did not try it yet. No idea how Cubasis fares in regards to this as therre's no demo. What I also did not try is using a touchscreen (just a normal monitor via HDMI) not to mention one that would get powered over USB. Using my MInix hub I have, I did not manage to get my phone charged, even though it claims it was charging. But charging over Qi still works. It should also be possible to use a powerbank that way. USB/Bluetooth keyboards and mice work without issues (provided the phone has got enough battery).

So this is all not perfect yet, but we are getting closer to being able to just having a powerful phone for everything. A computer we can just put in our pocket and walk around with, a computer we can use as kind of a tablet on the road somewhere and a computer we can use at home as a desktop station. That is certainly where we are heading towards and it won't take much longer anymore now. There's a lot of Snapdragon 865 phones coming out right now and they already talk about the upcoming 875.

When the time comes, personally I'd certainly be willing to pay good money for crossgrades from X86 to Android plugins. I so hope they'll end up turning Reason Compact into a DAW that's comparable to the full Reason.

There is no plug-in ecosystem for Android. So we are stuck with Cubasis stock plugins and Waves, which I don't like for various reasons... Would be great if a plugin ecosystem would come into existence for Android.
Let us all hope that they bring vst plugin format to Android, then we can say "now we're talking" :)
