I like Cubase.
I like Ableton.
Logics Ok
Waveform crashes.
I try FL studio once a year for 3 minutes and then delete it.
Bitwig is strictly for Bitwig people.
Studio One does the job
Reason is so yesterday
Cakewalk is free

No. I had a Live 5 or 6 license years ago, it was fun, but I sold it eventually. The whole pattern based thing is not for me, and for the classical linear timeline operation Cubase was way better than Live. Maybe Live has caught up a bit by now, dunno, not interested.

but there are some usable plugin chainer like Reason Rack, Bidule, MUX etc. it can't be a problem, or can use modular fx plugins like thepixel85 wrote: Tue Oct 27, 2020 12:22 pm16 per channel. How you may not know that if you use Cubase
tbh I never had need to fill all 16 slots or to get even close to that. But it's nice to have options![]()
one (I mention this one because it can be triggered by MIDI notes(through an ADSR env. for ex) so quite usable in Cubase), the following synths also have fx only version:
impOSCar
minimoog V
Moog Modular V 2
MS20
Predator
Synapse The Legend.
Distocore DistoFX
NI Absynth FX
NI FM8 FX
Parawave Rapid
Softube Modular
Native Instruments Reaktor
Cherry Audio Voltage Modular
Vaz Modular (32 bit only)
U-He Zebra (Zebrify)
Vember Audio Surge
KV331Audio Synthmaster and Synthmaster One
Serum
(and dunno what else
so the fun is endless

Just like you're the first person on here to leave a snarky comment that contributes nothing to the conversation, other than your recommendation to check out bitwig!antic604 wrote: Tue Oct 27, 2020 5:31 amNo, you're the first to ever do that!mikecueto wrote: Mon Oct 26, 2020 6:20 pm...has anyone else out there moved on to Ableton from Cubase? Please make extensive notes so that others could benefit from your trail blazing, daring steps

But more seriously - have you considered Bitwig?![]()
I have not checked out bitwig. How is it for live performance.

No contract, and it's not a ridiculous question. I've used Cubase for over ten years and I made a switch to a new DAW. I think ultimately I will keep Cubase for certain types of productions, because I have the workflow down, but, when it comes to producing chopped up/sliced loops and samples, and performing live, I'll use ableton.chk071 wrote: Tue Oct 27, 2020 11:47 am I love such threads. Wonder if those newcomers all have some kind of contract with a market research company.
I LOVE when people get butthurt on threads like this and it devolves into a "your question is a stupid question because 'a' 'b' and 'c'," so keep it coming.

It's great, but probably 2nd to Live especially with live performance dedicated M4L devices and Push2.mikecueto wrote: Tue Oct 27, 2020 4:27 pmI have not checked out bitwig. How is it for live performance.
And my snarky comment was more about the way you formulated your question. Obviously tons of people have. Do you really think you're unique?

I did remember Digital Performer and then forgot to put it in.
And is Garage-band only for using in a garage ?

Yeah, the controller integration that comes with Ableton is incredible/easy. I think that's the allure of Ableton products, that they're perceived as being "easy." Obviously you can go very deep with Ableton, but it is a pretty simple process to get up and running with some cool features.antic604 wrote: Tue Oct 27, 2020 5:54 pmIt's great, but probably 2nd to Live especially with live performance dedicated M4L devices and Push2.mikecueto wrote: Tue Oct 27, 2020 4:27 pmI have not checked out bitwig. I don't think I worded it weird at all. I think you're attaching something to my post that just isn't there, so, nice try, but this is the wrong post for that predictable mess.

Probably 2nd ?
Did Bitwig suddenly get all of the dedicated controllers that Live has while I was sleeping ?

Definitely no!
Cubase - I know it since 20 years. Just does the job! But has clonky modulation (well, no modulation) and things like that. Best DAW for MIDI. Great for micro-editing audio. Fairly stable if you stay with stable plugins. Love-hate relationship. For just recording and editing audio, nothing beats it. Does not feel very modern though.
Bitwig - I love it, but don't know it fully yet. Some things are so easy to setup that I literelly laugh at the competition. Has been stable and just got totally awesome modulation possibilites (no limits really) without any need for extra scripts or plugins etc. Can make a whole track with only built-in features.
Ableton - used to use it for live sessions and tried to produce with it. Hated it. Ugly and not really stable. Many ppl swear by it.. so I guess it's a matter of taste in the end.
Reaper. Installing it once every other year or so. Still ugly. Win95 look and feel. Clonky, really awkward work flow. Has to be setup individually to work nicely - hence impossible to use with other co-workers in sessions... Easy tasks are a pain in the default settings. Just... no.

the modulators of MUX can be modulated from outside(for ex. with Cubase Auto LFO) and from inside too(with its own modulators "...Audio-rate Parameter Modulation.cnt wrote: Tue Oct 27, 2020 7:11 pm ...Cubase - I know it since 20 years. What is it that you're objecting to - "probably" or "2nd"?dellboy wrote: Tue Oct 27, 2020 6:53 pmProbably 2nd ?
Did Bitwig suddenly get all of the dedicated controllers that Live has while I was sleeping?
A DAW doesn't has to have support for ALL controllers to be great for live performance - one or two that given person uses is enough. And Moss' scripts really cover most popular ones, often extending functionality way beyond what Live offers by default (e.g. Launchpad X & Mini Mk3). Also it depends what one means by "live performance" - if it's playing synths and modulars, Bitwig might well be 1st due to MPE and direct modular support.
So I've no idea what's controversial in above statement?

Probably.
I thought Live was the clear winner as far as playing live is concerned.
But you seem to indicate that Bitwig has caught up.
